The field is shrinking and stacks are growing. SHRP regular Peter Walsworth looks like he has one of the biggest stacks in the room with 180,000. He is looking for his fourth major Hollywood trophy and coming off a third-place finish in the Tampa Winter Poker Open Main Event.

Three-time WSOP Circuit winner Ryan Van Sanford is nearby and he’s over 100,000 as well. Two tough players with chips.

Yuval Bronshtein

The H.O.R.S.E. field was sent on the first break of the day and we have another great turnout. Following in the footsteps of yesterday’s Limit Omaha 8 tournament, Event 3 has already surpassed the count from last year even with the Freeze-Out format.

Yuval Bronshtein is back after winning the Event 2 trophy and trying to go two-for-two in two days. Nick Pupillo has plenty of success in his career, including three WSOP Circuit rings and two HPT titles, but still looking for his first non-NLH win. Pupillo bagged a top 20 stack yesterday for Event 1 so he’s taking a shot for a H.O.R.S.E. trophy today.

James Calderaro

Soon after the first staggered break, Flight C hit the magic mark of 400 unique players which meant the field is now limited to those using their single re-entry option. The field moved over 500 entries during that time to push the prize pool over $700K with an easy path to $1,000,000.

James Calderaro is one of those getting here in time to join Flight C. The WSOP PLO High Roller bracelet winner always keeps things light at his table and they are having  a good time on a Friday afternoon.

ICYMI: Yuval Bronshtein Wins First LHPO Trophy; Event 1 Hits Early Guarantee

It was a big first day for the 2021 Lucky Hearts Poker Open with a full, socially-distanced group of players coming out to start the series. The first two flights of Event 1 blasted over its guarantee and we awarded our first trophy of the series.

Event 2 was a $400 Limit Omaha 8 tournament which drew a huge field of 123 players to the Freeze-Out tournament. That number made it the second biggest Limit Omaha 8 game in our major history with the top one running nearly a decade ago.

Yuval Bronshtein recently moved to Florida and already making an impact. The 2019 WSOP Deuce-to-Seven bracelet winner captured his first SHRP title after a four-way deal that saw him take home $7,534.

“I’ll be back for the H.O.R.S.E. tournament,” Bronshtein said. “I’m looking to go back-to-back.”

1st: Yuval Bronshtein – $7,534
2nd: Manuel Labandeira – $7,324
3rd: Andrew Edgington – $5,867
4th: Mark Robinson – $5,704

Full Event 2 updates

The opening tournament on the schedule will not crown its winner until Sunday but had a big first day of its own. The $600 Deep Stack tournament drew a combined 845 entries over the first two flights to surpass the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool before cards went in the air for Flight B.

Mohammed Al-Balushi bagged a massive 708,000 in Flight B to set the current Day 2 high mark. Truyen Nguyen is a distant second with 491,000 followed by Samuel Taylor (450,000), Francisco Garcia (445,000), and Scott Baumstein (388,000) rounding out the top five.

Event 3: Time to Mix

$400 H.O.R.S.E. (Freeze-Out)
Structure
Level 1:  50/100 Limits

The first weekend of the 2021 Lucky Hearts Poker Open has plenty of action for those who prefer something other than No Limit Hold’em. Today we have the return of the popular H.O.R.S.E. tournament which will test player’s skills across five different games.

The mix will run through Limit Hold’em, Limit Omaha 8, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, and Seven-Card Stud 8 switching it up every eight hands.

H.O.R.S.E. players will start with 12,000 stacks and all levels last 30 minutes in this one-day trophy event. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30 pm but the Freeze-Out format means they have only one shot at the crown.

Action gets underway at noon and we will follow them along until we hand out our second trophy of the series.

  • Players begin with 12,000 in chips and 30-minute levels
  • Late registration until start of Level 9 (4:30pm)
  • This is a one-day tournament and plays until completion

We have a lot of old friends back in the Seminole Ballroom including Fred White, Sam Panzica, Nick Rawls, the Massey Brothers (Aaron and Ralph), Sheddy Siddiqui, and WSOP Big 50 bracelet winner Femi Fashakin.

Chris Nomikos

Flight C crossed over 300 entries before Level 2 came to an end and the Event 1 prize pool is now over $600,000. Double the $300,000 guarantee with a lot of time to spin it up.

That’s a great number for the first major series in a year.

Chris Nomikos is among those in early action and looking to continue a hot streak. He finished up his 2020 run with two huge scores in the Poker Room. The first was a third-place finish in the $1,100 November Holiday Special for $36K and Nomikos followed that up with a win in the $1,100 December Big Slick for another $30K payday.
