The second break came to an end and registration closed on the $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. Championship with 78 players. They created a prize pool worth $75,660 for the biggest of its kind in the state of Florida for a H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
We will post the payout information as soon as it is available.
The H.O.R.S.E. Championship is nearing 80 players with about an hour remaining to register, a great turnout for the big buy-in mix game.
Two of our more successful players are in the game with Gabriel Ramos and Phil Hui owning nine major SHRP trophies between them (five for Ramos, four for Hui). Of those nine titles, only one came in a Hold’em tournament and the other eight are spread among all other variants of the game.
H.O.R.S.E. Championship players were sent on their first break at the top of the hour with 60 players and more expected to join over the next two hours.
James Gunter was in his seat at the start and probably wouldn’t be too disappointed to repeat his last Championship; he finished third at yesterday’s Limit Omaha 8 Championship final table for a $10K payout. Of course, he’d rather repeat his performance during the 2018 SHRPO $360 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, the one he won to take the trophy.
Cards are in the air for the $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. Championship with 24 players in the freeze-out and many more expected before registration closes at 3:30 pm.
Esther Taylor was here early and having a good time. The poker pro has nearly $1.8 million in career earnings with most of that in non-Hold’em games. Taylor’s biggest score came with a third-place finish in the 2017 WSOP $25K Pot Limit Omaha High Roller for $543,713 (coincidentally the same event which SHRPO regular James Calderaro won).
More recently, Taylor ran deep in the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship where she finished 11th out of 1,573 entries.
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open schedule put three H.O.R.S.E. tournaments on the schedule, unique these days, and we have the last one set to go this morning at 11 am. This is the big one with the $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. Championship featuring deep stacks and a two-day structure.
They’ll start with 20,000 stacks and all levels last 40 minutes. Late registration is available until the start of Level 7 at 3:30 pm but freeze-out format means they have only one shot at the title. They will continue through their day until only nine players remain and they will return tomorrow for Day 2 at noon.
It will be a very talented field trying to take the ultimate mix game title of the series.
Players begin with 20,000 in chips and 40-minute levels
