After a heads-up battle that lasted about two hours, Richard Menjura defeated Raminder Singh to win Event 6, earning $35,355 and a SHRPO trophy.
“This is an amazing feeling,” said Menjura. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. I’m so excited because this is my first trophy.”
Day 1 ended late last night after a very long Money Bubble that lasted more than 40 hands, which meant that when the final 16 players returned today, five of them had fewer than 10 big blinds in their stacks.
Day 2 started this afternoon as you might expect right after the Money Bubble — with multiple all-ins. In the first hand of the day, three players were eliminated with only two tables in action.
When the final table began, Menjura had the chip lead, and he held it for most of the rest of the way. But then he battled Singh heads-up for about two hours. Menjura stuck to his plan and never got impatient.
“I was waiting for the right moment,” said Menjura, “because he was shoving too many hands. He got lucky once, but I knew I just had to wait for the right moment, and that’s what I did.”
In the final hand, Singh shoved , and Menjura called with . Neither player improved, and Menjura won the trophy with his ace.
Menjura plans to play more SHRPO events, including the $5,250 SHRPO Championship that begins on Friday, August 6th.
“I will play as much as I can,” said Menjura. “I hope to win another trophy. I’m from Colombia, but when I come here, I usually come to Seminole Hard Rock, because I like this place.”
