The players return from break to begin Level 9, with increased blinds of 500-1,000 with a big blind ante of 1,000.

A scan of the field during the break turned up eight players with at least 100K in chips, and three over 110K to create an unofficial leaderboard:

1.  Alberto Sabogali  –  167,000  (167 bb)
2.  Suju Abraham  –  122,500  (123 bb)
3.  Greg Kolo  –  114,500  (115 bb)

Registration has closed, and the tournament clock shows an unofficial field of 413. As soon as the official numbers are released, we will post them here in the updates.

A few more familiar friends showed up to play including Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger, Ryan Luker, Sam Panzica, and Josh Arieh fresh off winning his third and fourth WSOP bracelets.

Shannon Shorr is among those in the field today, his first game back after his turn at the GPI #1 (prior to Chance Kornuth) and also his turn as a new father.

Other notables include Alex Rocha, Kyle Rignola, Brian Altman, Loni Hui, and RRPO champ Duff Charette.

Chance Kornuth

The prize pool doubled the guarantee over the first hour and now we’re just going to sit back and wait to see how big it gets. The triple is locked up and quads aren’t out of the question.

Like yesterday, we are seeing a lot of top players getting into the game early and not waiting for the max late reg slip. Chance Kornuth is back with us and something is different from when we saw him yesterday in the $1,100.

Overnight, Global Poker Index put him as the #1 ranked player in the world on the heels of two wins and a deep run during the Aria Stairway to Millions series. Kornuth closed out 2021 with his third WSOP bracelet and a 16th place finish out of 6,650 in the WSOP Main Event.

Eric Siegel

Our players put another $100K on top of the $200,000 guarantee after less than an hour of play. The question now is, can we quintuple the guarantee like the $100K yesterday?

We found two players in the field who had great runs in the opening tournament of the series. LHPO Event 1 drew a huge crowd for a massive prize pool and both Eric Siegel and Rachael Pampinella made Day 2. Pampinella finished 12th out of 4,960 for a $20,055 payout and Seigel went out in sixth place for $87,695.

Darren Elias

Event 19 did not hit its $20,000 guarantee before the start of the day, nut it only took a few minutes after the start to get it there. We have 116 in the game early and the prize pool is over $230,000 with little effort and it’s going to get big.

Some top players are here in the first level including WPT legend Darren Elias and 2021 WPT Seminole Poker Showdown Championship final table member Ken “Teach” Aldridge.
