Mica Lamar
Event 12 Champion Mica Lamar

When Mica Lamar showed up to the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open on Saturday afternoon, there were two events she wanted to play — the $300 Ladies Event, and the $400 Deep Stack.

Lamar figured she could start with the Ladies Event, and if she didn’t make the final table, she could just slide into the final starting flight of the $400 Deep Stack. She cut it close, arriving just before registration closed for the Ladies Event around 5:15 pm.

“I was the very last person to register for the Ladies Event,” said Lamar. “So I got here just in time. Last in, last out.”

It turns out that Lamar not only made the final table, but she won the Ladies Event in a heads-up deal with runner-up Sahar Khajavi. Lamar won $5,000, plus an entry into the $1,100 Deep Stack that starts Monday, August 8th as part of the Big 4.

“I’ve been coming in second a lot,” said Lamar, “so this first trophy is a pretty good feeling.” This may be Lamar’s first trophy, but she’s no novice, with more than $100,000 in tournament earnings in just the past 16 months.

“It was a great group of ladies today,” said Lamar. “I really enjoyed playing with them. It was a fun table. But ladies are tough. I’d rather play with the guys. With the ladies, you just really don’t know. They’re very unpredictable.”

Lamar finished with some praise for Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

“This place is the best,” said Lamar. “I would even say it beats Vegas. They always get the greatest turnouts here. As you see, they broke another record today. Seminole Hard Rock — they literally rock.”
