Nolan King Receives a Text, Climbs Out of Bed to Play a $2,650 Satellite, Then Goes On To Win $713,190 in the Big 4 High Roller

Nolan King
Big 4 High Roller Champion Nolan King

“This was my first high roller.”

That was said by Nolan King shortly after winning the $25,500 Big 4 High Roller against a tough field of 105 entries to win the first prize of $713,190, defeating seasoned high roller Sean Winter heads-up for the trophy.

King was about to go to sleep a couple nights ago when he received a text message that would drastically alter his next couple of days.

“One of my buddies, James Carroll, texted me and said, ‘Hey, come play this satellite with me.'” said King. “I was in bed, getting ready to go to sleep, but I said ‘Alright, I’ll come play.’ So I came and played, and I won that. I never would have played this otherwise.”

On Day 1, the field of 105 entries played down to the nine-handed final table, and they played down to a winner today as part of the SHRPO Big 4. And everything seemed to go King’s way today.

“I got very lucky in a lot of spots,” said King.

King was actually all in preflop with eight players remaining, dominated and facing elimination.

“I had ace-three, and Sean had ace-king,” said King. “We got it all in preflop. He flopped a flush draw and turned a king, but I hit a miracle straight on the river.” (Click here for more details about that hand.)

A similar situation happened to get King heads-up against Winter.

“When it was three-handed,” said King, “I had pocket fives all in against kings, and I immediately hit a five on the flop.”

That hand came against third-place finisher Arian Stolt, who was eliminated in that hand to earn $319,000. (Click here for more details about that hand.)

It also gave King a slight chip lead against Winter to start heads-up play, though they were very deep relative to the blinds, and heads-up play lasted more than two hours.

Winter took the lead at one point with a double-up, but King grinded his way back on top. And in King’s own words, he got lucky once again.

“That last hand, I had six-seven of spades,” said King. “Sean flopped top two, and I got lucky with a spade on the turn. So everything went my way today.”

After a flop of 9s6d3s, King check-raised, and then Winter three-bet all in with 9h6h for top two pair. King called with 7s6s for a pair with a flush draw, and caught the Js on the turn. (Click here for more details about the final hand.)

“I had a blast,” said King. “Everything was great.”

While King isn’t a regular in high roller events, he loves coming to the Seminole Hard Rock.

“It’s beautiful here,” said King. “Everything about the Seminole Hard Rock is great. From the service to everything in here. There are two different pools to choose from, and great food. I love it here.”
