Luis Pauyac

Hollywood, Fla. (January 16, 2017) – Event 3 of the 2017 Lucky Hearts Poker Open, a $360 No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry), drew 244 entries and generated a prize pool of $73,200. After nearly 12 hours of play, including nearly 90 minutes at the unofficial final table of 10 players, a deal was reached between those remaining 10 players. The chip leader at the time was Luis Pauyac, giving him the official victory.

Originally from Lima, Peru, Pauyac currently resides in Athena, GA. The 24-year-old is attempting to get into graduate school for Physics, and in the meantime is a waiter back near home in Georgia. He doesn’t play poker too often, but relishes the chance to do so when he can.

“I started playing poker back in college, just small buy-ins with friends. Then after I transferred schools, I didn’t play for about two years. I went to a casino one night, played poker for the first time in a while and won, so I decided to get back into it. Eventually, though, I kept losing and wondered why, since I thought I was pretty good,” explained Pauyac. “So I started reading and really decided to study the game.”

This was Pauyac’s first time playing at the Seminole Hard Rock, and it was the allure of the series that convinced him to come.

“I’m always looking for special series and events to play if I get the chance, and I had heard good things about the Seminole Hard Rock. I only play when I save up enough money from my job, and I came down here to play only two tournaments. Yesterday I lost, today I won, and I’m going back home tomorrow. So it was a good decision.”

Wally Maddah

The Event 3 field continues to climb higher in the afternoon hours with 114 entries in the game after the first hour. With more than three hours left to run it up, the $50,000 should be hit well before they close the doors.

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa poker ambassador Wally Maddah is making his return to the ballroom after a rough run in the opening Ultimate Re-Entry event. We can expect a bounceback from the Tampa pro after he ended his 2016 on a heater. Maddah cashed three times during the 2016 RRPO with two final tables and an 18th place finish out of 5,018 in Event 1. He followed that up with three more cashes in the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open including a fifth-place finish in the opening tournament.
