About two hours after watching his friend Chris Blik win Event 9 in a heads-up deal, Justin Lee won Event 10 ($400 Pot Limit Omaha) outright after a lengthy heads-up battle against Dmitry Savelyev.

Lee and a group of his friends came down from Michigan primarily to play in the $1,100 WPTDeepStacks event that just finished, and the $3,500 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open that begins on Friday. But in between those two events, they’ve now won two trophies.

“It feels amazing,” said Lee. “I just ran well, played well, and the cards came. It felt good.”

In addition to his supportive rail of friends, Lee caught a small bit of luck at just the right time. “I got it in bad with a set against the nut straight, and I rivered a boat,” said Lee. “After that, I had a big lead, and I just kind of hung out until heads-up.”

“It’s Omaha,” said Lee. “Anything can happen.”

The heads-up battle was fairly long, and Lee and Savelyev both had very deep stacks, so it could have gone either way. But shortly after watching his friend Blik win a trophy, Lee was able to match it with one of his own.

“It feels amazing. It feels great,” said Lee. “The positive energy worked out.”
