Stewart Newman

Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Stewart Newman has been doing some quiet work this evening and moving himself into contention for the end-of-night lead.

The three-time SHRP champion is up to 125,000 late in the day and sitting at a table with fellow big stacks Francis Margaglione and Charles Workman. A table that will not break this evening so there may be fireworks before we are done.

The accounting is complete and Flight D of the $500,000 Guarantee kickoff event drew 268 entries for the biggest four of the four sessions run to date. They pushed the prize pool over $400,000 and we should the guarantee hit before too long tomorrow afternoon.

Day 2 Chip Counts through Flight C

Next up is Flight E kicking off tomorrow at 11 am.

Event 1: Workman Leads as Registration Closes

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 9: 300/600 with a 100 ante
Flight D Entries: 268

Charles Workman

Flight D players are back in their seats after the second break of the day and registration is now closed. The tournament clock shows 268 entries on the board to push the combined total over 800 for the four flights. We will post the official numbers as soon as they are finalized.

It looks like Charles Workman is the current chip leader and he’s stacked up to 103,000 from his starting 12,000 after four levels of play. The Minnesota grinder won a tournament at Canterbury earlier in this month and he just missed a Heartland Poker Tour final table in August.

Event 1: Last Level to Register

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 8: 250/500 with a 75 ante
Flight D Entries: 259

Jason Gooch

Flight D is in the last level with late registration available, or the re-entry option for those hitting the felt. The tournament clock shows 259 entries in the game so far and that’s not a bad way to finish up a Friday night playing poker.

Jason Gooch is another player we found who, like Alex Rocha, made his way south after spending some time in the northern climes at the Borgata. He’s a regular on the WSOP Circuit and captured the Casino Championship last February in West Palm without putting on a new ring. Gooch final tabled four events that series including a runner-up finish in the $365 NLH tournament.

In recent news, Gooch came close to making his first televised WPT final table with a deep, last two table run at the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship.

Event 1: Alex Rocha Rolling Along

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 7: 200/400 with a 50 ante
Flight D Entries: 239

Alex Rocha

Flight D climbed over the previous high mark set for this kickoff event earlier today with 239 entries so far. The combined count for all four flights now sits at 775 and the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool will be hit sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Alex Rocha is back down in his home state after grinding away up in the Garden State. The two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner has $1.8 million in career earnings plus four cashes of $100,000 or better including a third-place finish in the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $570 event.

Event 1: That John Holley Grind

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 6: 150/300 with a 25 ante
Flight D Entries: 220

John Holley

After missing the opening day, John Holley is making his first appearance back in the ballroom. He’s a successful player that qualifies as both a WSOP Circuit grinder and SHRP regular.

Holley owns six WSOP Circuit titles among his $1.6 million in career earnings. His earned his most recent ring in January earlier this year not long after he picked up another SHRP trophy. Holley won an event during the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open and also owns trophies from here in Hollywood as well as Seminole Coconut Casino.

Event 1: Elizabeth Rainer Leads After Break

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5: 100/200 with a 25 ante
Flight D Entries: 215

Elizabeth Rainer

Flight D players are back in their seats and the entry count is a dozen or so away from hitting the earlier flight’s numbers. The $500,000 guaranteed prize pool will be hit sometime tomorrow, now the question is how far over will it go.

Elizabeth Rainer returned to the biggest stack in the room and a single 1K chip away from hitting 60,000. She’s followed closely by SHRP regular Francis Margaglione with 55,000.

Top stacks:
Elizabeth Rainer – 59,000 (295 bb)
Francis Margaglione – 55,000 (275 bb)
Carlos Rojas – 47,800 (239 bb)

Level 4: 100/200
Flight D Entries: 205

Frankie Flowers

The entry count is flying high in Flight D and they are almost assured of being the biggest of the four flights so far. We had 232 in the flight earlier today and it won’t take much to get there tonight.

We found SHRP regular Frankie Flowers in action before the first break looking for some WSOPC jewelry. Despite his claim that he’s having a down year, Flowers has three SHRP final tables this year plus a 18th place finish in the Venetian Deep Stacks Extravaganza Main Event.

Event 1: Cody Pack Back for Number Six

Event 1 Day 1D – $580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 3: 75/150
Flight C Entries: 160

Cody Pack

We are one hour into the fourth flight and we’ve already matched the numbers from either of the first two flights with three and a half hours remaining in late registration.

Cody Pack is a WSOP Circuit regular and has the hardware to prove it. Earlier this year, he earned his fifth WSOP Circuit ring in Cherokee and he’s one nice cash away from crossing over $500,000 in career earnings. Pack picked up his biggest career cash with a WSOPC Cherokee win in 2015 and he followed that up with another $100,000 bankroll boost for making the WSOP Monster Stack final table.
