The 2022 Fun in the Sun Poker Open kicked off with a $400 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry). Over two starting flights, the $50,000 guarantee was more than tripled, as a field of 495 entries generated a prize pool of $168,300.

Emerging victorious was Alcides Gomez, taking it down outright for $32,270. This marked Gomez’s third Fun in the Sun title, having previously won the 2018 Fun in the Sun Main Event for $26,348, and a $400 Black Chip Bounty during the 2021 series for $10,835.

This one, however, had a more personal and special meaning to Gomez.

“My Dad passed earlier this year, and I just wanted to dedicate this win to him,” said Gomez afterward.

“I kind of dreamt about this yesterday, and I just had a good feeling about today. My Dad meant a lot to me, and he was a big fan of me playing poker. I haven’t played that much this year, and have been taking care of his personal affairs, but he was a big fan of my playing, and it just feels good to win. I know he’s smiling down on me today.”
