Event 1 Day 1G: Quick Moving

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

It only took 9 levels to reduce the field by 75% as less than 100 players remain in Day 1G as they move into Level 10. There were two instances of players who never came back from the second break to play their stacks. The 8-seat on Table 32 was a no-show but finished the level with just 300 behind which was good enough for three antes. The other stack still sits with 6,500 but getting steadily blinded out.

More players found in today’s field include Mike Beasley, (NAPT and WSOP-C runner up), Garry Gates (WSOP-C final table), and Errol Massey (regular grinder in The Poker Room at Seminole Hard Rock). Our salad-loving player Jim Sullivan has left the building after running his Queens into Aces.

The remaining players are moving into Level 10 with blinds at 500/1k/100 ante.

Event 1 Day 1G: The Art of Isolation

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Sometimes you don’t want to play a multi-way pot with a vulnerable hand and the way to make that happen is by isolating the opponent with a big bet to push out other players. We walked up to Table 36 to witness a playful version of the Isolation Move.

The 1-seat in the small blind was staring down the player in the big blind, “You better have a hand.” The 3-seat was all-in under the gun and the 1-seat player flatted in the small blind only to have the big blind come over the time all-in with both holding just shy of 40,000. The 1-seat mucked his Jd Td face up while the big blind showed Ad Qd and the all-in player had 9h 9c.

“There’s my jack!” the 1-seat yelled when he saw it in the window but the dealer spread the flop to show the Ac Qc along with the Js. “Nice move,” he said before the Jc hit the turn. The 3-seat was sent packing while the 1-seat continued to ponder what might have been.

Lou White, electronic poker table innovator, was located in today’s early flight and doing well after an early quadruple-up. He let us know he got it in bad with set under set only to get lucky quads on the river. It seems to be that kind of day.

Level 8 is underway with blinds at 300/600/75 ante and 136 players remaining. That number means there are still two tables playing in the downstairs area four hours into play.

Event 1 Day 1G: Boats and Quads

Jim Sullivan stuck around on Table 41 just before the first break and knocked out two players before the second. Three players were all in on the flop with Sullivan holding a set of Fives against a King-high flush draw and top pair. The 8-seat turned his flush but the river paired the board for the double knock and move his stack over 42,000.

Table 36 showed down a hand where the chips were going in the middle regardless of the river. The 7-seat snap called all-in and aggressively tabled his Jd Jc on a board which read Kd Kc Js Ks 5c for the flopped full house but handled it well when the 5-seat rolled over Kh 6h to show the turned one outter for quad Kings.

Players are into Level 7 with blinds at 250/500/50 ante and 198 remaining in the field.

Event 1 Day 1G: We Have a Full House

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

The staff hustled to get all the alternates in seats and pull the tally for Day 1G. The final morning flight of Event 1 drew 397 entrants, a huge number which makes it the biggest Day 1 field but it will likely be topped during this evening’s Day 1H. Today’s field brings the combined Day 1 total field up to 1,769 creating a sweet prizepool for the small $125 buy-in.

Floor staff will continue to break tables in the downstairs area to clear room for cash games and eventually the entire field will be upstairs and play 10 more levels today.

Event 1 Day 1G: First Break and Numbers Climbing

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Players are on their first break of the day and there is still a line of alternates waiting for seats as registration closes for the day. It also means the end of re-entries which has prompted a lot of action at Table 41.

“I’m running out of time!” exclaimed Jim Sullivan as he looked at the tournament clock over his shoulder. “I’m going to have to take it with me, I’m not going to be here that long,” he told the waitress when she delivered his salad. He would survive to enjoy his meal during the break.

We will have official Day 1G numbers once registration is closed and all alternates have their seats. Players will have one more chance  to enter the $150,000 Guarantee Event 1 when Day 1H runs tonight at 7pm.

Event 1 Day 1G: Set Over Set No Good

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

A big hand was dealt on one of the overflow tables downstairs when two sets were outdone on the turn. We caught the hand as the dealer was adjusting the pot and three players were all-in on the Qd Jc 6d flop. Their cards were tabled and 3-seat 6c 6h flopped set was behind the bigger set of Jh Jd for the 5-seat. Set over set makes for a big hand but the 9-seat had a big draw with two cards to come holding Ad Kd.

The gutshot Th hit the turn and the board didn’t pair on the river to ship the huge pot towards the 9-seat who let out a “YES” loud enough to get everyone’s attention.

Players to come and go over the first three levels with all tables running plus the occasional alternate waiting for a seat to open. They never have to wait long. Tournament staff is working to get the numbers up to this point but we will wait until registration is closed for the official count.

Event 1 Day 1G: Hit and Run

He would only give his first name, not really sure whether he was truthful, and Andy just had the shortest tournament run possible. Walking the tournament floor during the first level is equal parts checking for hands, looking for notable players, and watching players check-in to their table.

Andy was one of those guys handing over his seat tournament slip and photo I.D. at a chatty table when he got all our attention by putting his 10,000 immediately in the middle on his first hand. It drew mostly chuckles from the players but there were a few disconcerted folks as well.

“I guess I have to call,” said the player in the cutoff. He rolled over As Kd after the rest folded and was up against the powerhouse 9c 4h. “What the (expletive),” was the general consensus from the rest of the table. Andy just shrugged and stood back up after his small hand rightly lost.

“I’m playing cash downstairs and won a big pot,” he explained before heading back downstairs, “I won a big pot and a friend dared me to register and play every hand. I get a rebate for busting on the first hand.”

The other player will appreciate the extra money in the prizepool.

Players are into Level 2 of the day with the tournament clock showing 207 players registered. Day 1G is going to take a shot at topping the biggest Day 1 field of 300 entrants.

Event 1 Day 1G: Final Day Underway

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Players are still taking their seats as the tournament staff make their announcements and get the cards in the air. It is the final day of Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open” Event 1 and will likely be the biggest two flights of the tournament.

Friday flights drew 526 players bringing the total number of entrants in Event 1 to 1,372 so far and 152 players moving to Day 2. The Poker Room at Seminole Hard Rock will be hoping all day long between the tournament and cash game action.

Stay tuned throughout the day for live updates from Event 1 Day 1G and 1H.

Event 1 Day 1E: Play Comes to an End

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

It was a hectic last 10 minutes of the day as several short-stacks took a stab at doubling up and a few of them fell to our end of Day 1E chipleader Osvaldo Amor.

He knocked out three players in three hands, the final when his Qd Td outraced his opponent’s 4s 4h with a ten on the flop. Amor ended his day with 232,200 which is good enough for 3rd on the combined Day 1 leaderboard. He did well to make it deep and finish with the lead after earning a short penalty from the floor staff earlier in the day.

The starting field of 226 was whittled 24 players returning for Day 2. Players are already in the room getting ready for Day 1F and we’ll continue coverage when they get underway.

Top 5 Chip Counts from Day 1E:

Osvaldo Amor – 232,200
Sean Martin – 175,500
Dominic Frisby – 174,600
David Jacobs – 142,700
Richard Contell – 142,700

Event 1 Day 1E: Battle of the Blinds

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Running a big hand into a bigger hand late in a tournament is a tough situation, especially when both hands are in the blinds. Sometimes the dealer bails you out.

The 1-seat on Table 35 three-bet an early position raise from the small blind with Ts Td before the big blind moved all-in with Qs Qd. The original raiser got out the way and the 1-seat was halfway out of his chair when the dealer pealed off the Jd Th 3s flop. He sat back down as the 2-seat cut out enough chips to pay off 66,000 and change.

One final left in the day and 30 remain with blinds at 1.2k/2.4k/300 ante.
