Event 1 Day 1G: The Art of Isolation

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Sometimes you don’t want to play a multi-way pot with a vulnerable hand and the way to make that happen is by isolating the opponent with a big bet to push out other players. We walked up to Table 36 to witness a playful version of the Isolation Move.

The 1-seat in the small blind was staring down the player in the big blind, “You better have a hand.” The 3-seat was all-in under the gun and the 1-seat player flatted in the small blind only to have the big blind come over the time all-in with both holding just shy of 40,000. The 1-seat mucked his Jd Td face up while the big blind showed Ad Qd and the all-in player had 9h 9c.

“There’s my jack!” the 1-seat yelled when he saw it in the window but the dealer spread the flop to show the Ac Qc along with the Js. “Nice move,” he said before the Jc hit the turn. The 3-seat was sent packing while the 1-seat continued to ponder what might have been.

Lou White, electronic poker table innovator, was located in today’s early flight and doing well after an early quadruple-up. He let us know he got it in bad with set under set only to get lucky quads on the river. It seems to be that kind of day.

Level 8 is underway with blinds at 300/600/75 ante and 136 players remaining. That number means there are still two tables playing in the downstairs area four hours into play.
