Event 1 Day 2: In the Money

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

It took exactly one hand on the bubble to get the field in the money. Tournament staff announced hand-for-hand play was about to get underway when a downstairs tables produced two eliminations to get down to 126 without a major pause in play.

The happy short-stack players will start shoving to double or hit the cage while the top stacks will look to move their way up the pay ladder with an eye at the $45,121 first place prize.

Event 1 Day 2: Crawling to the Money

Less than 150 players remain in Event 1 and the short stacks have clamped down on their starting hand range trying to make at least a min-cash. It takes a big hand to put a lot of chips at risk and Table 41 showed down a big one.

Kamini McKoy opened from middle position before Dan Losey came over the top all-in. He was called by Martin Canero on the button before Willie Wiggins pushed put in his 87,000, he was also called for a big three-way pot. Losey was ahead with Ad Ac versus Ks Kh of Wiggins and Jd Jc of Canero.

Three top hands saw the harmless Qs 2s 2d flop but Wiggins picked up a flush draw on the 9s turn. “Who has a spade?” asked the 9-seat before Wiggins spiked his other option for the win with the river Kc for a near triple up. The hand knocked out Losey and left Canero with just over 100,000.

Level 18 is underway with blinds at 3k/6k/500 ante and 144 remaining.

Event 1 Day 2: Paging Vic

It’s not uncommon for players to show up late for Day 2 especially if sitting on a nice stack. Table 34 only had one player sitting down just five minutes before the start but filled before too long. Table 33 still has a bag of chips in the 6-seat and everyone is wondering about the whereabouts of Vic Vasa.

Vasa finished Day 1D with 169,100 but still hasn’t made a showing and is slowly getting blinded down.

There are 180 players remaining in the field with 15 minutes left in Level 15 with 126 making the money.

Event 1 Day 2: Beating Kings

Finding yourself all-in with Ace-Queen versus Kings is generally a losing proposition. When the hand does win it’s usually popping an Ace or some miracle straight but Ed Vasoncelos found an interesting way to get there this afternoon.

Vasoncelos was all-in with AsQd versus Michael Belkin with the pocket Kings when the flop came out 3h 3c 3s leaving Vasoncelos looking for one of three Aces or the case 3. It was the 3d which came next to turn Belkin’s big pair into merely a King kicker.

The double-up moved Vasoncelos to 140,000 midway through the first level of the day.

Event 1 Day 2: First Out

It didn’t take long for us to catch the first player heading out the door. Anibal Salazar began Day 2 with just 24,000 and moved all-in with KsTd on the JdTc4s flop. Margarita Ramirez Serrano had just finished unbagging her chips and called with AdJs for top pair top kicker. She hit trip Jacks with the Jc turn to knockout Salazar early in the day and move over 150,000.

Event 1 of the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open” is ready to declare a winner after four days, and eight flights, of Day 1 action. The tournament drew 2,098 entrants and 233 survived to make it into Day 2 with a chance to win the top prize of $45,121.

Luis Santoni begins the day with the chiplead with 286,800 closely followed by Max Jones with 284,200. Due to the great turnout, the field is split almost evenly between tables upstairs and downstairs.

It took a few extra moments to get everything settled at the start of the day with the returning players, but cards are in the air and we won’t stop until there is a champion in Event 1. The chip average is ~90,000 with blinds starting in Level 15 1.5k/3k/300 ante.

Stay tuned for live updates throughout the entire day.

It was a wild day in The Poker Room at Seminole Hard Rock with 397 entrants in the final morning flight of Event 1 to bring the combined Day 1 total up to 1,769. Only 42 of those 397 players made it through into Day 2 with Sean Smith 225,000. Not far behind is Al Bieler with 218,000 and a handful more over the 200k mark.

The last chance to get into the tournament is Day 1H which kicks off at 7pm.

Event 1 Day 1G: Winning the Hard Way

Sometimes the best pre-flop hand does win, but it might take the long way to get there. Table 35 got the rooms attention when the 2-seat was yelling “look at this!”, which turned out to be a three-way all-in with Kh Ks versus Jc Jh versus 2d 2h. The player holding the ducks yelled for a 2 and promptly flopped one but so did the Jacks on the Ah Js 2s board.

“And there is his Jack,” was his next comment. The table was still buzzing about the set over set heartache when the dealer ran out the Qs on the turn and 8s on the river. It took everyone a heartbeat to realize the Kings made a comeback with running spades to take the huge pot and the double knockout.

Last level of Day 1G is underway and we are tracking down the chipleader.

Event 1 Day 1G: Getting Loud

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

The noise level has gone up in the room as the tables condense and bad beats start hitting. Table 32 was the first table to make a racket after the break when two players were all-in with Ad Ks against Ac Qd and the loudest yell came from the player spiking a Queen on the river to knock out his opponent.

Alan Dobrow continues to be active at his table with his chips, cards, and voice. He was all-in with Ah 7d on the 9d 7h 4s board up against Kd 9s and proceeded to hit his miracle with the river 7c on the river to double-up to 140,000.

“I don’t play the cards, I play the dealer,” was Dobrow take on the old No Limit Hold’em adage of playing the player.

Coming back the break, it looks like local grinder Nicholas Mahabee is the Day 1G chip leader with just over 200,000. He’ll look to build on that lead moving into Day 2.
