Event 23: Colossus Champ Ben Keeline Eliminated

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 474

This past summer, Ben Keeline, a down-on-his-luck poker pro, went from driving for Uber in his home state of Colorado to winning the 2016 World Series of Poker $565 Colossus II for $1 million. It was one of the “feel good” stories of the summer.

Keeline, who will be taking his first trip to Europe to play poker later this month, was here at SHRPO looking for more success, but he’s not going to find it in this event as he was just eliminated in the last hand of Level 6.

It happened when Greg Spinder opened for 1,000 from middle position and Keeline jammed for 8,400 from the hijack. The rest of the field folded and Spinder snap-called.

Spinder: AhAs
Keeline: KhJc

The 4s5hKs flop gave Keeline a little help, but he needed more to stay alive. The 9d turn wasn’t what he was looking for, and neither was the 5d river.

Greg Spinder – 30,000
Ben Keeline – Eliminated

Event 23: WSOP APAC Champ Scott Davies Eliminated

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 471

In October 2014, Scott Davies defeated Jack Salter to win the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event for $850,000 and a gold bracelet.

Since then, he has been traveling the world playing poker, which included a visit to the 2016 SHRPO. Unfortunately for him, his hope of cashing this event just came crashing down.

We missed his demise, but he was kind enough to share some details after the fact. According to him, he was crippled after picking up QxQx. He raised to 1,000 from the cutoff, the player in the big blind three-bet to 3,000, and Davies shipped. His opponent, who as it turned out held KxKx, called off for 16,000 total and held.

In the very next hand, Scott Clements raised to 1,000 from middle position and then called when Davies jammed for 2,950 total from the hijack.

Clements: KxJx
Davies: Ax9x

Davies got it in good, but he failed to hold as the board ran out 4x4x8xJxJx.

Scott Davies – Eliminated

Event 23: Blake Bohn Continues to Rise

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 471

A player in middle position opened for 1,200 and Minnesota’s Blake Bohn called from the button. Both blinds folded and it was heads-up action to the 4hJs3c flop.

Bohn proceeded to call a bet of 1,200, and then called when his opponent bet 2,000 on the 8h turn. When the 7h completed the board on the river, action went check-check.

“Nines,” declared the middle-position player before tabling the 9s9d. It was no good as Bohn held top pair with the Jd10d.

Blake Bohn – 70,000

Event 23: Matt Berkey Flushes Some Chips

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 5: 150/300/50
Players: 460

With around 7,000 in the pot and a board reading 3s4s9hAc, the under-the-gun player checked and Las Vegas poker pro Matt Berkey did the same from middle position.

When the Js completed the board on the river, the under-the-gun player checked and Berkey tossed out a single gray chip for a bet of 5,000. His opponent snap called and Berkey confidently rolled over the 6s7s. However it was no good as his opponent held a bigger flush with the 10s9s.

Matt Berkey – 14,000

Event 23: River Freezes Blake Bohn’s Action

Level 4: 100/200/25
Players: 444

After the under-the-gun player raised to 500 and both a player in middle position and the cutoff called, Minnesota’s Blake Bohn, a Mid-States Poker Tour Pro, called from the big blind to make it four-way action to a [8h5dqc] flop.

Bohn checked, the original raiser continued for 1,300, and the middle-position player folded. The cutoff called and then the remaining three players checked after the 8c turn paired the board.

When the Qd double paired the board on the river, all three players checked once again. Bohn quickly tabled the 8d2d for eights full of queens, and it was good as both his opponents mucked.

Blake Bohn – 33,000

Event 23: Ryan Tepen Eliminates Mike Leah

Level 4: 100/200/25

Ryan Tepen limped from middle position and Mike Leah, who was to his direct left, raised to 700. The player in the big blind called, as did Tepen, and three players saw a flop of 2d7cKh.

Two checks saw Leah continue for 1,100, the big blind folded, and Tepen called to see the 8d turn. Tepen checked, Leah bet 2,500, and Tepen check-raised to 5,500. Leah responded by moving all in for 14,300 and Tepen snap-called.

Tepen: 7h7d
Leah: AhAc

Tepen flopped a set to pull ahead of Leah’s aces, and the Qc river allowed him to dispatch a tough opponent.

Ryan Tepen – 50,000
Mike Leah – Eliminated
