Event 10 Day 1B: Zo Karim Kicks One Out

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 4: 100/200 with a 50 ante
Entries: 265

Zo Karim raised to 500 under the gun, and four players called, including the big blind.

The flop was QcTdQc. The big blind and Karim both checked, and the player next to act moved all in for 6,125. The table folded back around to Karim, and he called to put his opponent at risk.

Karim: AdTc
Opponent: JdTh

Karim’s kicker had him in the lead, and the Ts and 3s that completed the board did nothing to change that. Karim earned the knockout, and he’s flirting with 50,000 chips as the first break approaches.

Zo Karim – 49,000

Event 10 Day 1B: Growing and Growing

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

This morning’s Day 1A flight drew 260 entries by the time the first break hit, so it appears this flight will be just as big, if not bigger.

Some of those who are back for this evening session include Brian Hastings, Mike Beasley, Tom Kearney, Ebony Kenney, T.K. Miles, and Dan Heimiller, the latter of whom is fresh of a victory in Event 8 last night.

Event 8: Dan Heimiller Wins Another Six-Max Title at Seminole Hard Rock ($12,577)

2016 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

Event 8: $360 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Entries: 171
Prize Pool: $51,300

Dan Heimiller
Dan Heimiller

Dan Heimiller is the champion of Event 8, defeating a field of 171 entries to win the $360 six-max title. For his day’s work, Heimiller collected the black glass trophy and the top prize of $12,577. It was his second six-max victory in this building, five years after his win in the $2,160 version in 2011.

The champ is a professional poker player originally from Michigan, though he’s made his home in Las Vegas off and on for the last 30 years. He learned to play poker shortly after graduating college, and his tournament career has netted him nearly $6 million in total earnings to date. He also has two gold bracelets and a couple close calls in World Poker Tour events.

Heimiller showed up a couple hours into this event, and he wasted no time getting to work. By the time the dinner break hit, he was among the chip leaders, and he moved into the top spot by eliminating Arthur Rodriguez in seventh place. Heimiller went on to eliminate David Jackson in fourth place, then Matthew Yorra in third, setting up a heads-up duel against Zoltan Czinkota.

The final battle lasted just a couple hands before Czinkota ran ace-eight into Heimiller’s ace-king. A king on the turn left Czinkota dead to a chop, and a blank on the river sealed the deal for Heimiller.

“I gave more than my share of bad beats today,” Heimiller laughed as he reflected on his win. “Earlier in the tournament, I had queens and I busted aces.”

Heimiller said he almost left town after taking a bad beat of his own yesterday. “I was thinking about running out the door,” he said. The decision to stick around turned out to be a profitable one, though. “I’ll tell you what, $12,000 a day is…” he trailed off. “How much a year is that?”

Dan Heimiller

Dan Heimiller limped in from the button, and Zoltan Czinkota raised to 63,000 from the big blind. Heimiller moved all in, and Czinkota called all in for about 300,000, putting himself at risk.

Heimiller: AcKs
Czinkota: As8d

The board ran out QsTc9hKd6d, and Heimiller won the pot and the tournament with a pair of kings. A recap of his victory will be published shortly.

Event 8: Matthew Yorra Eliminated in 3rd Place ($5,566)

$360 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 20: 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 3 of 171

Matthew Yorra
Matthew Yorra

In a battle of the blinds, Dan Heimiller and Matthew Yorra saw a Js9d3c flop. Heimiller checked, Yorra bet 20,000, and Heimiller check-raised to about 60,000. Yorra moved all in for about 120,000 total, and Heimiller quickly called to put his opponent at risk.

Heimiller: AcJd (pair of jacks)
Yorra: 9s3s (two pair)

Yorra was in front with two pair, but Heimiller seems to be running awfully hot this evening. The Ah appeared promptly on the turn, giving Heimiller a big lead with aces up. The river was the 6s, giving him the pot, and Yorra was sent to the cashier in third place.

Heimiller is now heads up with Zoltan Czinkota for the trophy, and the former has a significant chip lead entering the duel.

Dan Heimiller – 1,320,000 (165 bb)
Zoltan Czinkota – 390,000 (49 bb)
Matthew Yorra – Eliminated
