Patrick Chi, Event 5 Champion

The first Sunday of the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open schedule put on a big, one-day $300 No Limit Hold’em tournament that had a nice turnout. The tournament drew 293 entries for nearly a $75,000 prize pool and SHRP visitor Patrick Chi walked away with the trophy as a reward for one day’s work.

The tournament created a stacked final table that included SHRP regulars Errol Massey, Marc Sacheli, and 2017 LHPO WPTDeepStacks Main Event champion Michael Graffeo. The stacks were deep and the structure left plenty of room for play.

They lost two players in early action and the final eight players settled in for what could have been a very long grind. They realized they might be in for a marathon and the eight remaining players checked the ICM numbers before agreeing to a deal to divide up the prize pool.

Chi held a small lead over Massey and was crowned the champion thanks to his stack. He collected $7,720 for his efforts along with the LHPO trophy and custom-framed winner’s photo courtesy of IMPDI.

The 19-year-old champion decided to visit us for the LHPO series after playing in the Bahamas. This was the New Yorkers last chance for a title before flying out at 7am to make his way back to school at Columbia University. Besides being a champion poker player, Chi is also a chess wizard and a National Master in the game.

Congrats to Patrick and we hope to see him back soon.
