Event 9 Winner Ido Ashkenazi
Event 9 Winner Ido Ashkenazi

Ido Ashkenazi began heads-up play with a chip lead of 1,090,000-to-600,000 over Will Failla, or roughly 1.8-to-1. But once heads-up play began, it was all Ashkenazi.

They battled for a full hour, and they both acted quickly and saw a lot of hands. There were only three all-in situations during that time, and each time Ashkenazi had at least a 9-to-1 chip lead.

Before the final hand was dealt, Ashkenazi said, “This is it. This is going to be the last hand.” Failla looked down at his cards in the small blind and said, “All in.” Ashkenazi checked his cards and said, “I call.”

Failla showed Ac3c, and he needed to improve to stay alive against Ashkenazi’s 5h5d.

The board came Qd6s5s2s9d, and Ashkenazi won the pot — and the tournament — and Failla’s bounty — with a set of fives.

Failla finished as the runner-up to earn $9,126.

Ido Ashkenazi won Event 5 ($570 NLHE Double-Black-Chip Bounty) to earn $15,716 and a Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown trophy.
