2023 Fun in the Sun Event 1 Champion Scott Baumstein

The 2023 Fun in the Sun kicked off on Tuesday with a $400 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry). Across two starting flights, a field of 546 entries generated a prize pool of $182,910, nearly doubling the guarantee.

Emerging victorious was Scott Baumstein, taking it down outright for $35,405. This marked Baumstein’s first Fun in the Sun guitar trophy, adding to his collection of six SHRP major series trophies, and a Big Slick guitar trophy from September 2020.

Baumstein max late registered Flight B and bagged a below-average stack, returning Wednesday 46th in chips of the returning 69 players. He navigated through and began the final table as the shortest stack, but won two key hands early on to ascend the leaderboard.

First, his ace-king won a race against Brett Feldman’s pocket sixes. Shortly thereafter, Baumstein picked up ace-king again and was all in against Diane Linke’s ace-king. A chop was likely, but Baumstein turned a flush to double up and take the chip lead.

From there, Baumstein held the lead for most of the way before ultimately closing it out.
