Event 10: Felipe Perez Accidentally Eliminates One

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 20: 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 160 of 2,724

The player under the gun opened with a raise to 115,000, leaving just 3,000 behind. A couple seats over, Felipe Perez failed to notice the action.

“Raise,” Perez said, before putting 20,000 into the pot. The floor was called for a ruling. Since Perez verbalized his action first, he was bound to a minimum raise and forced to make it 220,000 total. He did so with a shrug. “It’s okay, I have a good hand,” he said. The table folded back around to the initial raiser, who committed his last few chips to put himself at risk.

Perez: QhJs
Opponent: 8s8c

The board ran out Jh7d6s4h4c, and Perez won the knockout pot with jacks up.

Felipe Perez – 520,000 (52 bb)

Will Givens opened the pot with a middle-position raise to 25,000, starting a flurry of action. The player in the cutoff moved all in for 27,000, the button called, and the big blind re-shoved for 57,000 total. Givens moved all in for 249,000 over the top, and the button called with the covering stack, putting three players at risk.

Givens: QsQd
Cutoff: ThTc
Button: AhJh
Big blind: 4s5s

The board ran out Jc7d2d8s3c, and Givens’ queens held to earn him the pot. He more than doubled up, eliminating a pair of opponents in the process.

As the pot was pushed to him, Givens picked up his cards and kissed the two queens, one at a time. “Love the ladies,” he said.

Will Givens – 593,000 (99 bb)

It took only two rounds of hand-for-hand action to get Event 10 in the money, though the first hand took nearly ten minutes.

Jerry Wong found a big hand at his table with an early raiser all-in for 15,000. He came along in small blind, as did the big blind, to the 9c4c4h flop. Wong got a 25,000 flop bet called and another turn bet after it came 6c. A river bet got the big blind to fold and the two players had to wait for other action to finish before tabling their hands.

“I’m pretty sure I’m the bubble,” said the soon-to-be bubble boy.

When all else was done, Wong tabled KsKc to best the unimproved AdTd to put Event 10 in the money.

On an AdKsQd flop, Jodie Diamond got her last 40,000 into the middle with a pot of more than 80,000 already up for grabs. She was at risk against the player on her direct right, and she only needed to fade one out to survive.

Diamond: KhKc

Diamond was on the good end of the set-over-set flop, and the 4h turn and 2c river secured her double-up.

There are 251 players remaining, and only room for 250 of them in the payouts. Action is being dealt hand-for-hand until the next elimination, which will burst the money bubble. The next player eliminated will go home empty handed, while the rest of the field will be guaranteed to earn at least $1,144.

Event 10: Alfonso Perez Eliminated by Rachael Kranz

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 18: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 259 of 2,724

Four players were involved in a pot on a 5d4c3c flop. Alfonso Perez checked from the small blind, and the big blind bet 20,000. Rachael Kranz called next to act, and the fourth player called in position. That brought the action back to Perez, and he check-raised all in for 82,000. The big blind folded, Kranz called, and the fourth player folded to leave Perez heads up for his tournament life.

Perez: As2s (wheel)
Kranz: 6s6c (straight draw)

The 7s appeared promptly on the turn, leaving Perez dead to a chop. The river was the blank Qc, and he was eliminated at the hands of Kranz.

“Thank you, dealer,” Kranz said as the pot was pushed in her direction.

“Thank you?” Perez shook his head as he stood up from his chair. “I’m sorry you weren’t good enough to fold.” After another moment, he added, “Best of luck. I mean that sincerely.”

Rachael Kranz – 400,000 (67 bb)
Alfonso Perez – Eliminated

We caught the action with the flop reading 9s7c3s and Ari Engel had bet out for 22,000. One other player released his hand before Raymond Ruszkowski raised it up to 49,000.

After a quick think, Engel announced all-in and Ruszkowski called after a few thoughts of his own. Engel needed to hit his flush draw with Ks5s against Ruszkowski’s flopped set of 7d7h but missed as the board completed 3dAc.

Ruszkowski’s 303,000 stack covered Engel and the eight-time WSOP Circuit champ was eliminated.
