Event 14: Fernandez Doubles Through Winsler

$300 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Seniors

Blinds: 1K/2K/300 ante

Robert Winsler checked the Jd6h3c flop and Julio Fernandez bet 8K. Winsler check-raised all in and Fernandez after thinking for a moment made the call. Winsler had 5c4c for an open ended straight draw while Fernandez had Qc6c for middle pair. The turn was the 8c prompting Fernandez to ask for a club even though he was already in the lead. The river was the 4d and Julio walked away going “yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.” He had 25K total to start the hand and is over 50K now.

Event 14: In The Money

$300 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Seniors

Blinds: 1K/2K/300 ante

Walk away for five minutes to go check out Event 15 and what do the Seniors do – they get frisky and bust two players out after not having lost one for over an hour. Robert Bass finished in 5th place for $1,200. Our remaining four players and their approximate chip stacks are as follows:

Seat 1Robert Winsler (Sarasota, FL)60K
Seat 2Julio Fernandez (Miami, FL)40K
Seat 3Elliott Zaydman (Coconut Creek, FL)190K
Seat 4Jeff Kessler (Plantation, FL)75K

Event 14: Grumpy Old Man

$300 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Seniors

Blinds: 800/1.6K/200 ante

The player who had doubled up on the earlier hand moved all in on a K-Q-Q two diamond flop and was called by the same opponent who had doubled him up earlier in Seat 4. Seat 4 still had him covered and turned over A-J. His opponent had J-3 of diamonds for a flush draw. The river was a blank and Seat 4 looked like he was going to eliminate our player in Seat 2 that was all in. The river was not a diamond… but it was a 3… prompting Seat 4 to jump up out of his chair, let out a string of expletives and slam his fists against the wall. “Jesus Christ bro,” he said sitting back down… clearly agitated. He’s still mumbling about it five minutes later even after getting lucky with K-8 against A-K (against Seat 2) to double up to 20K.

Event 14: Short Stack Doubles

$300 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Seniors

Blinds: 800/1.6K/200 ante

A short stack check raised all in over the top of his opponent on a Q-T-8 flop. His opponent made the call with K-Q for top pair with a King kicker. His opponent had flopped the nuts though with Jc9c and the turn and river would not change the outcome. “Look at that sh**,” said the player with K-Q to a friend who came up to look at the hand. The short stack had 30K and now has more than 60K. Not so short any more.

Still six handed. Still one shy of the money.

Event 14: On Break

$300 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Seniors

Blinds: 800/1.6K/200 ante

We’re still not quite in the money yet as six players remain. They briefly discussed doing a chip count chop but in the end decided against it. All six players are relatively deep with no one having less than 25 big blinds. Once we get into the money, we’ll let you know who they are and provide you with the bust outs for each finish.
