Event 6 Day 1D: Play Begins

The Day 1D starting flight for Event 6 ($125 no-limit hold’em – $150,000 guaranteed) has begun with blinds at 25-50 and starting stacks worth 10,000. They will play 14 30-minute levels with a 15-minute break every two levels this afternoon and play should end just before 7 p.m.

The total field size is already 1,029 players so the prize pool us up to $102,900. There are still quite a few starting flights that will take place during the next two days so that number could grow to 3,000 and double the guaranteed prize pool. Here is a breakdown of the remaining schedule.

Tuesday, August 13: Day 1E – 3 p.m.
Tuesday, August 13: Day 1F – 7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 14: Day 1G – 11 a.m.
Wednesday, August 14: Day 1H – 3 p.m.
Wednesday, August 14: Day 1I – 7 p.m.

Players can re-enter in any of these starting flights. Stay tuned tonight for further coverage from all of Tuesday’s starting flights and see which players advance to join the 115 that have already made it to Day 2 on Thursday, August 15.

A Busy Monday Comes to a Close at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open

Monday Night Recap (Events 1, 2, 4, 5, 6)

There were four final tables on Monday at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, along with three starting flights for Event 6 scattered throughout the day. Here is a quick rundown of what happened.

Event 1, $350 No-Limit Hold’em ($500K Guarantee)

Winner:  Derek Buonano

Event 1 began the day with 19 players remaining. When they got down to the final nine, the event became an apparent standoff as nearly two levels passed without a bustout — the short stacks kept winning the all-in situations.

The players took an extended break to discuss a deal, and eventually agreed to a slightly modified ICM chop that gave chipleader Derek Buonano the victory, along with $90,000.

There were 3,391 entrants in the five-day tournament, and the final 306 players finished in the money to claim their share of the $1 million prizepool. Here were the official final table results (based on the chop):

1st:  Derek Buonano  –  $90,000
2nd:  Steven McKoy  –  $64,001
3rd:  Jaime Campos  –  $58,418
4th:  Zachary Goodman  –  $58,323
5th:  John Liu  –  $57,557
6th:  David Diaz  –  $50,047
7th:  Jeff Yeh  –  $42,742
8th:  Kevin Ho  –  $41,000
9th:  Daniel Navarrete  –  $38,787

Event 2, $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em ($75K Guarantee)

Winner:  Benjamin Stark

There were 98 entrants in Event 2, and the top nine finished in the money. When the final table got down to six players, they agreed to a six-way deal where everyone got at least $9,900, and chipleader Ben Stark was awarded the trophy.

1st:  Ben Stark  –  $27,000
2nd:  Chris Karambinis  –  $20,000
3rd:  Alain Rodriguez  –  $11,000
4th:  Christopher Mitchell  –  $9,910
5th:  Michael Wakefield  –  $9,900
6th:  Yaroslav Nakonechnyy  –  $9,900
7th:  George Dolofan  –  $4,410
8th:  Francesco Pisani  –  $3,430
9th:  Moe Musa  –  $2,450

Event 4, $240 Seven Card Stud ($25K Guarantee)

Winner:  Kevin Painter

There were 41 entrants in Event 4, and the original prizepool was set to pay the final five players. But when the field neared the Money Bubble with seven players remaining, they decided to make a deal. Chipleader Kevin Painter was awarded the trophy.

1st:  Kevin Painter  –  $2,287
2nd:  Sergio Corominas  –  $1,575
3rd:  Debra Jorgensen  –  $1,287
4th:  Al Green  –  $1,013
5th:  Roberto Martinez  –  $875
6th:  Jeremy Jennings  –  $600
7th:  Christian Ivens  –  $563

Event 5, $240 No-Limit Hold’em Black Chip Bounty ($20K Guarantee)

Winner:  Christopher Carey

There were 252 entrants in Event 5, and the day began with the final nine players. This was the first tournament of the SHRPO series that didn’t end with a deal, as they played all the way down to a winner.

The final table action took a little less than five hours as Christopher Carey outlasted the field and defeated Richard Hopple heads up to win the trophy.

The final 22 players finished in the money, and here are the official results from the final table:

1st:  Christopher Carey  –  $7,053
2nd:  Richard Hopple  –  $4,158
3rd:  Alexis Carrasquillo  –  $2,772
4th:  Abbey Daniels  –  $1,928
5th:  Fernando Alfonso  –  $1,436
6th:  Benito Prats  –  $1,109
7th:  Francis Garcia  –  $857
8th:  Marvin Karlins  –  $630
9th:  Celena Holloway  –  $454

Event 6, $125 No-Limit Hold’em ($150K Guarantee)

Monday marked the beginning of Event 6, which would hold *nine* starting flights over three days. The event needs to attract 1,500 entrants to meet the $150,000 guarantee, but it shouldn’t be a problem as the field has already reached 1,029 entrants and two-thirds of the starting flights have yet to be played.

Of the 1,029 entrants who started on Monday in three different flights, there were 115 survivors who made it to Day 2. Only five of them finished above 200,000 in chips:

1.  Leonard Sande  –  268,000
2.  Mark Zand  –  225,800
3.  Ryan Gunderson  –  212,300
4.  Jeremy Costa  –  201,000
5.  Michael Chwiej  –  200,800

There will be three more starting flights on Tuesday at 11:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 7:00 pm, and three more on the same schedule on Wednesday.

Event 6, Day 1C: 44 More Players Survive to Day 2

The third flight of players for Event 6 ($125 No-Limit Hold’em w/ $150,000 Guarantee) started with 397 players, and finished with 44 survivors heading into Day 2.

Combine those numbers with the first two flights that played earlier today and you get 115 survivors from a field of 1,029 entrants. But this is only the first of three starting days, and each day has three flights starting at 11:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 7:00 pm. Players can play as many starting flights as they’d like, but they can only carry over a single surviving chip stack.

There were three players in Flight C that finished above 200,000 in chips:

1.  Mark Zand  –  225,800
2.  Ryan Gunderson  –  212,300
3.  Devin Delatorre  –  196,400

Event 6, Day 1C: Mark Zand Leads With One Hour Left

Flight C of Event 6 ($125 NLHE w/ $150K Guarantee) started at 7:00 pm ET with 397 players, and when they took their final break of the day at 1:30 am ET, there were 64 players remaining.

There were seven players with more than 100,000 in chips at the break, so here is the updated leaderboard with blinds at 1,000-2,000 and a 200 ante:

1.  Mark Zand  –  226,900  (113 bb)
2.  Shawn Busse  –  161,000  (80 bb)
3.  Jon Gottlieb  –  155,400  (77 bb)
4.  Ryan Gunderson  –  137,600  (68 bb)
5.  Devin Delatorre  –  132,000  (66 bb)
6.  Max Loveland  –  119,600  (59 bb)
7.  Friday Santos  –  108,900  (54 bb)

With 64 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 62,000 (31 big blinds). The field will play two more levels tonight, and action should end around 2:40 am ET.

Event 6, Day 1C: 77 Players Remain

The tournament poker room is mostly empty here at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, which is a big change from earlier today. There were four tournaments that played their final tables today, and three staggered starting flights for Event 6 ($125 NLHE w/ $150K Guaranteed Prizepool).

But everything has wrapped up except for the third starting flight in Event 6, which we’re calling Day 1C. There are currently 77 players left from the 397 who started this third flight.

Event 6 needs to attract 1,500 players to meet the $150,000 guaranteed prizepool. There have already been 1,029 entrants here today, and there will be three more starting flights tomorrow, and another three on Wednesday. Players can enter as many flights as they’d like, so the guarantee won’t just be reached, it will likely be crushed.

There is an hour and a half of play left for the Day 1C players tonight.

Event 6 Day 1B Ends with 35 Players

The Day 1B starting flight for Event 6 ($125 no-limit hold’em – $150,000 guaranteed) has come to a close with 35 players remaining from the field of 347 that entered. They will join the 36 survivors from Day 1A on Thursday, August 15 at 1 p.m. ET. Day 1C will conclude later tonight at 3 a.m.

The total field size is already 1,029 players so the prize pool us up to $102,900. There are still quite a few starting flights that will take place during the next two days so that number could grow to 3,000 and double the guaranteed prize pool. Here is a breakdown of the remaining schedule.

Tuesday, August 13: Day 1D – 11 a.m.

Stay tuned tonight for further coverage from the remaining stages of Day 1C.

Event 6: Over 1,000 Players

After the close of registration in the Day 1C flight the number of players that entered was 397 and that means that the total number of entries is now over 1,000 (1,029) in Event 6 ($125 no-limit hold’em – $150,000 guaranteed). That puts the prize pool at $102,900, well on pace to beat the guarantee easily given that there are six more starting flights taking place over the next two days.

Event 1: Derek Buonano Wins $90,000 in a 9-Way Chop

After nearly two levels without a bustout at the final table of Event 1 ($350 No-Limit Hold’em), the final nine players took their scheduled break and came back talking about a chop scenario.

Everyone counted their chip stacks and entered the numbers into an online ICM calculator. (ICM calculations are designed to split a prizepool based on a player’s reasonable expected value rather than a straight % based on chip counts.)

The primary holdout was chipleader Derek Buonano, who had a big chip lead, while everyone else had fewer than 25 big blinds. The ICM calculation would award him $81,702, which was about third-place money, and he wasn’t happy with that since he had a big chip lead.

Eventually, a deal was reached for other players to kick in enough money to award Buonano an even $90,000 for first place.

Their finishing places were determined by the agreed-upon payouts:

1st:  Derek Buonano  –  $90,000
2nd:  Steven McKoy  –  $64,001
3rd:  Jaime Campos  –  $58,418
4th:  Zack Goodman  –  $58,323
5th:  John Liu  –  $57,557
6th:  David Diaz  –  $50,047
