Event 12 Champion Renny Barrett

Renny Barrett flies up from Kingston, Jamaica from time to time to play in the poker tournaments here at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, and on Tuesday night he won his first trophy.

“Omaha is my favorite game,” said Barrett. “All forms of Omaha.”

When Barrett saw this event on the schedule, he was immediately attracted to it. “I saw the sequence of the Omaha — the Big O, the Omaha-8, and the PLO, and I said ‘I’m gonna give this one a shot.’ I like the variety of it.”

Barrett knocked out two of the five players who were eliminated at the final table, yet he still found himself as the short stack with just 10 big blinds during three-handed play.

Three-handed play lasted for about an hour, and in that time, Barrett worked his way from short stack to chipleader, and once the three players found themselves fairly even in chips, they agreed to an even three-way chop. As chipleader, Barrett won the trophy and the title.

There were 59 entries in this one-day event, and the final eight players finished in the money.
