Championship Day 2: Anthony Zinno Eliminated on a Bad Beat by Alberto Rodriguez

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship (Freeze-Out)
Level 20: 8,000/16,000/2,000 Ante

After a flop of AcKdQd, Alberto Rodriguez checked the hijack, Anthony Zinno bet 77,000 from the cutoff, and Rodriguez check-raised to 180,000.

Zinno tanked for a while before he moved all in for 406,000. Then it was Rodriguez’s turn to tank, and he tanked for several minutes before he called with a similar chip stack and turned over AsQh for two pair. But Zinno turned over KsKc for a set of kings.

The turn was — the Ad.

The entire table reacted loudly as Rodriguez took the lead with a full house, aces full of queens. Only the case king could save Zinno now.

The river card was the 3s.

Rodriguez won the pot with his full house, and when the chip stacks were counted down, Rodriguez had Zinno covered by 11,000 (417K to 406K). Zinno was eliminated in 48th place.

Zinno has been on an incredibly hot run lately, winning two WPT titles earlier this year, winning the WPT’s Player of the Year award, and picking up his first WSOP bracelet this summer.

Rodriguez raised his arms in the air and shouted to a friend on the rail: “I did it! I beat the Zinno! I lucked out, but I beat him!”

Alberto Rodriguez  –  1,000,000  (63 bb)
Anthony Zinno  –  Eliminated in 48th Place  ($20,000)

Michel Bittan
Michel Bittan

With the final board showing Js8h6sKh10h on the river, Michel Bittan moved all in from middle position for 195,000, and Joseph Cheong tanked for a while before he called.

Bittan said something along the lines of, “Should I go with the straight, or the flush?” as he turned over AhQh for an ace-high flush (and a meaningless ace-high straight). Cheong mucked, but since it was an all-in situation, the dealer flipped over his cards to reveal Kd6d for two pair, kings and sixes.

Michel Bittan  –  850,000  (53 bb)
Joseph Cheong  –  645,000  (40 bb)

With 51 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 534,000 (33 big blinds).

The flop came Qd10c3s, and Gonzalez moved all in. Volpe called with 10h10d for a set of tens, and Gonzalez turned over A-A for an overpair. Gonzalez needed to improve to stay alive.

The turn card paired the board with the 3h, the river card was the 2c, and Volpe won the pot with a full house, tens full of threes, to eliminate Gonzalez in 60th place.

Paul Volpe  –  810,000  (68 bb)
Jose Gonzalez  –  Eliminated in 60th Place  ($17,500)

With 59 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 461,000 (38 big blinds).

Championship Day 2: Eddy Sabat Eliminated by Marc Macdonnell

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship (Freeze-Out)

Eddy Sabat moved all in from the cutoff for 70,000, Marc Macdonnell moved all in over the top from the small blind, and the big blind folded.

Sabat turned over KhJs, and he needed to improve to stay alive against Macdonnell’s Ah2d.

The board came 10c8c6c8d4h, and Macdonnell won the pot with his ace to eliminate Sabat in 61st place.

Marc Macdonnell  –  1,480,000  (123 bb)

Kunal Patel raised UTG+1, and a player who just came over from a broken table to assume the big blind moved all in. Patel called all in for 211,000 with 10h10c, and the new player in the big blind turned over AdKc.

The board came 10s7c3d10d8s, and Patel turned quad tens to win the pot and double up in chips, knocking his unfortunate opponent down to just 45,000 in chips (4 big blinds).

Kunal Patel raised from middle position, Ari Engel reraised from middle position, and Patel called. The flop came 10h6h2s, Patel checked, Engel bet 55,000, and Patel check-raised to 130,000. Engel thought for a bit before he called.

The turn card paired the board with the 6c, and both players checked.

The river card was the 3h, Patel moved all in, and Engel snap-called all in for 307,000 with 10d10c — a full house, tens full of sixes. Patel showed AhQh for a heart flush, and Engel won the pot to double up.

Ari Engel  –  1,055,000  (88 bb)
Kunal Patel  –  215,000  (18 bb)

With 63 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 432,000 (36 big blinds).
