Corbin Avery

Corbin Avery was in the big blind and picked up pocket aces against the button’s pocket kings. It was a cooler situation and Avery’s kings held up to eliminate a player.

With the elimination, Avery burst the bubble to send the WPT/Jason Taylor Foundation Charity event into the money. Everybody remaining is guaranteed a cash of at least $250.

Tommy Bates vs. Mike Leah

The money bubble is approaching and Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Director of Poker Operations Tommy Bates is showing he can do more than run one of the nicest rooms in the country.

Bates got into a preflop confrontation with Mike Leah. Leah got all in from the big blind for about 35,000 and Bates called from middle position.

Leah showed TsTh and was in the lead against Bates’ JcTc. The board ran out favorably for Bates, however, as it came Jh8h3hAs7d and Leah was eliminated just a few spots before the money.

Bates dragged the pot and chipped up over an average stack. With one more elimination, the field will be on the bubble and hand-for-hand play will begin.

Vince Van Patten and Mike Sexton with Michael Krumenacker

Vince Van Patten and Mike Sexton are running promotions to generate more money towards charity. They are going through all four suits and when a player makes a flush of a certain suit, the two will give $100 to the player and donate another $100 to the charity.

Michael Krumenacker won the first $100 when he made a spade flush and it was none other than Jason Taylor himself who won the $100 when he made a heart flush.

“This guy wins everything,” said Sexton.

Taylor made them keep the $100 and double it up for the next player.

“Vince, we aren’t even playing this event and we are going to go broke,” joked Sexton.

Once all four flushes were hit, they decided to give the same offer to anybody who won a pot with 7-2 offsuit.

Entrants: 94

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Director of Poker Operations Tommy Bates

On the turn with the board reading QcQs8s7d, Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Director of Poker Operations Tommy Bates got all in from the cutoff against a player from early position.

“I’m just trying to get another $300 in there as quickly as possible,” said Bates with a smile.

His opponent eventually called Bates’ 4,475 shove and showed 5s5c and was in bad shape against Bates’ KcQh. The river was the Jh and Bates doubled up.

“I put them in and I take them back,” said a laughing Bates.

“It’s still social. The bar is open,” said WPT commentator Vince Van Patten.

“Oh, it’s very friendly,” said Bates. “We are actively trying to spend $300 at this table.”

With 94 entries in the field already, the tournament has generated $13,160 for charity so far, with plenty of time before registration closes.
