Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier stepped away from poker for a while to be the best family man he could be. After not cashing a tournament in a year, Mercier entered and won the $50K Super High Roller last week to remind others he is still one of the best around.

This is the fifth incarnation of the Big 4 High Roller with four different winners including Mercier. The first ever Big 4 High Roller was run in 2015 and he defeated Ian O’Hara heads-up for the win.

High Roller: Darren Elias Takes One

Darren Elias

On a flop of AhAsQs, John Esposito checked from the small blind, reigning champ Jake Schindler bet 3,000 from early position and Darren Elias called from the hijack. Esposito raised to 10,000 and both of his opponents called.

All three players checked the 10c on the turn as well as the 2s on the river.

Esposito tabled AdJc for trip aces but was no good against Darren Elias’s Js10s flush.

Darren Elias – 140,000
John Esposito – 97,000
Jake Schindler – 90,000

Jake Schindler

The High Roller is nearly up to 50 entries at the start of Level 2 and it is more than halfway to its $2,000,000 Guarantee with registration open for nearly seven more hours.

Jake Schindler is one of the more recent additions and returns as our defending champion. Last year’s Big 4 High Roller drew 123 entries and Schindler was the last player standing after defeating Shaun Deeb heads-up for the win and $800,000.

Scott Levitt (left) versus Ray Qartomy (right)

Scott Levitt opened to 3,000 from the button and Ray Qartomy called from the small blind.

The flop came AcQd4s, Qartomy checked and Levitt bet 6,000. Qartomy called.

The turn brought the Ah, Qartomy checked again and Levitt bet 6,000 again. Qartomy called.

The river was the 10c, Qartomy checked, and Levitt put out a bet of 13,000. Qartomy called.

There was a hesitation as neither player wanted to turn over their cards. Levitt threw his in the muck and Qartomy showed the As as he scooped the pot.

Ray Qartomy – 135,000
Scott Levitt – 65,000

Rainer Kempe

The High Roller got off to a great start with 23 entries, up from 14 at the start last year, and we’ve had more show up in the first few minutes. Super High Roller champ Jason Mercier popped his head into the room then took a walk, presumably to hit the registration desk.

Rainer Kempe was in his seat at the start of the high roller pro has some nice results. In 2017, he had back-to-back third place finishes in the Poker Showdown and SHRPO $50K Super High Roller. Kempe missed the final table this year but now has a shot at the $25K High Roller.
