Event 35 drew a great group of players with 490 entries pushing the prize pool over the $1,000,000 mark and 103 survived to return today for Day 2 at noon.

Ray Qartomy leads the return but only one yellow chip better than second-place Louis Chandler. 2021 WPT Poker Showdown $5K winner Shannon Shorr sits in third, WPT Tampa runner-up Gabriel Abusada is in fourth, and WPT Poker Showdown Championship third-place finisher is in fifth.

That’s the talent in only the top five spots.

After 14 levels of play, the 490-entry field in the $2,650 no-limit hold’em, the second of the ‘Big 4’ events to kick off, is down to its final 103 players with Ray Qartomy edging out Louis Chandler for the chip lead.

Both Qartomy and Chandler had strong finishes to the day and were the only two players above the 300,000-chip mark. Qartomy bagged up 306,000 while Chandler will start Monday with 305,000.

Chandler won a big pot to eliminate Harrison Gimbel with two pair and temporarily moved into the chip lead. Qartomy won a couple pots to edge out the chip lead.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, the tournament staff paused it and announced that every table will play three more hands before bagging up chips for the day.

On the river with a completed board of , there was about 60,000 in the middle and Harrison Gimbel was heads-up against Louis Chandler.

Gimbel bet 15,000 and Chandler moved all in for about 115,000, which covered Gimbel. Gimbel went into the tank for quite a while before calling all in for about 80,000.

Gimbel showed , but Chandler turned over and won the pot with two pair.

“Y’all thought you were going to keep pushing me around,” said Chandler after the hand. “We’re back!”

Chandler is one of the bigger stacks remaining with about 25 minutes left in the day.
