The 2023 May Deep Stack Series opening event drew 767 entries over three starting flights and Carlos Bermudez was the last player standing, taking home the trophy and $37,397 after a four-way deal.

This is the second DSPS trophy for Bermudez, going nicely with last year’s series’ $600 Deeper Stack tournament win. His first trophy went to one daughter and now he has one for his second daughter.

In addition to this win, Bermudez continued a hot stream after he won a Poker Showdown $600 Deep Stack Turbo title a few weeks ago.

The four remaining players went on a 10-minute break shortly after Dylan Jaijairam was eliminated in fifth place and they never played another hand. During the break, they looked at ICM numbers based on their counts and quickly made a deal.

With exactly 10,000,000 in his stack (triple-checked), Carlos Bermudez stormed ahead late in the game and earned the Event 1 title along with $37,397.

Ginold Rendel opened to 225,000 and Dylan Jaijairam moved all in for 1,075,000. Rendel called and Jaijairam was at risk.

Jaijairam was in line for another final table double up. The flop was safe and so the turn was no big deal. The bad card for Jaijairam came on the flop and his tough run came to an end in fifth place.

Soon after Evan Beard was eliminated, Brandon Noe was all in for about 1,200,000 and Carlos Bermudez had him at risk.

Noe was in great shape and the flop kept him in the lead. Bermudez picked up a club draw, paired his deuce on the flop, and made trips on the river to send Noe out in sixth place.

Ginold Rendel opened to 225,000 from early position and Brandon Noe called in the small blind. Evan Beard tossed his last 250,000 in the middle from the big for an all-in bet and both Rendel and Noe called.

The two live players checked down the board, Rendel bet 100,000 after the river, and Noe called.

Nigel Murray opened the action from the hijack and Dylan Jaijairam shipped for 1,350,000 from the small blind. Carlos Bermudez folded his big and Murray quickly called.

Dylan Jaijairam open-shoved for 650,000 and it folded to Evan Beard on the button. He moved all in over the top for 975,000 and the blinds folded.

Jaijairam was ahead for the double but had two suited, live cards to fade. His situation improved when he made trip aces on the flop then locked up the pot with the case ace on the turn to double.

It folded to Evan Beard in the hijack and he announced all in. His shove was for 500K, Ginold Rendel called on the button and the blinds folded.

Beard was drawing thin, missed the flop but paired his jack on the turn to take the lead. The river was and Beard pulled a double.

“That’s it,” Rendel said. “I’m done knocking people out. Get to work Nigel.”

Dylan Jaijairam opened to 150,000 from under the gun and it folded to Ginold Rendel on the button.

“Here’s my one million bet!” he let us know, after Rendel waited for this moment all day.

Rendel’s bet came from the button and Uri Kadosh shoved from the big blind for 1,550,000. Jaijairam folded and Rendel quickly called.
