We will post an official prizepool post once registration closes and we know how much is being donated to charity (Make-A-Wish Southern Florida). But as a preview, here are the prizes that will be awarded to the nine final tablists:

This charity poker tournament benefits Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, and most of you have heard of Make-A-Wish at some time or another. It’s a non-profit organization that does what they can to fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses — a progressive, degenerative, or malignant condition that can jeopardize a child’s life.

One of the players in the field was a Make-A-Wish child — Josh Cranfill, who is playing with the assistance of his mother. When he was barely a year old, Cranfill was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy.

Poker is Cranfill’s favorite hobby, and now that he’s an adult, he often plays in our tournaments here at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, with the assistance of one of his parents to manipulate the cards and chips.

The field is up to 62 entries, with registration open until the end of the first break, around 9:35 pm or so.

There was a brief presentation before the tournament began, with information about the charity that tonight’s donations will go to — Make-A-Wish Southern Florida — and a tribute to the late Larry Frank, affectionately known as “Mr. Frank.”

Frank was instrumental in the success of tournament poker in south Florida, and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood has become one of the premier stops worldwide for tournament poker.

Because this is a charity event, the prizepool has been donated, and will be posted soon. The nine final tablists will receive cash and prizes, with the winner receiving $5,000 plus a $3,500 seat into the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, which begins tomorrow.

The cards went in the air shortly after 7:20 pm, and the field will be playing 15 minutes levels, with registration open with unlimited re-entries until the end of the first break around 9:35 pm. It’s only $300 to enter, and massage therapists from Rock’N Massage are here providing free massages to the players.

There were 33 players in the field when action began, and that number has grown to 45.

There was a cocktail party with a lineup of silent auction items before the charity event, which begins at 7:00 pm.

There are a variety of silent auction items, including “Party Like a Rockstar” gift baskets from Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, autographed artwork and memorabilia, vacation packages, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

One of the more unusual memorabilia items is a replica old-school hockey mask autographed by actor/stuntman Kane Hodder, who portrayed Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th horror franchise.

There is also a “Celebrity Cash Game” donated by Daniel Negreanu, where you would get to play in a $1/$3 no-limit hold’em cash game against Negreanu and/or Phil Hellmuth. That’s truly a bucket-list item that any recreational poker player would love.

The charity tournament itself is starting soon (7:00 pm), and registration remains open with unlimited re-entries until the end of the first break, around 9:15 pm.

We have a very special charity tournament starting at 7 pm, honoring a special person. Mr. Frank was key in building the current poker environment we enjoy in South Florida, in the background directing our biggest moves forward.

Larry Frank was a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Before he passed in 2021, he worked for Seminole Gaming and Seminole Hard Rock Support Services for more than 25 years in various roles, including General Manager of Poker Operations at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood and General Manager of Seminole Casino Classic.

Today we honor him with a charity tournament benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We have a cocktail party in Salon East starting at 5:30 pm and the $300 buy-in tournament will get underway at 7 pm with late registration available until 9:15 pm. In addition to the prize pool money, the winner will receive $5,000 in cash plus a $3,500 seat in the WPT Poker Showdown Championship.

All net proceeds from the event will benefit Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida. Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Research shows a wish can give kids
the strength to fight against and even overcome a critical illness.
