Players are back from their second break of the day and the green 25 chips have been removed from play.
A couple more WSOP bracelet holders have been spotted in the crowd and they have more than bracelets in common. Tristan Wade and David Diaz are both playing today. They finished first and second, respectively, back in August at the WSOP Circuit Main Event in West Palm Beach.
Hassan Sader (Wellington, FL) gave his opponent a “suckout seminar” when the unfortunate man in seat 7 got all-in preflop holding pocket 4s.
Hassan had AK and the board ran clean until the river, when a King landed. After dispatching his opponent, Hassan chipped up to about 90k, making him one of the early chip leaders.
Angel Vu is the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year, a title she fought hard for all year, earning the most points in the qualifying events. She’s back today continuing her pursuit of the 2015 title.
The 2015 season began in September at the CocoOpen, and continues with this series. Later events also included in this season are the Lucky Hearts Poker Open in January and the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in April. The 2015 season concludes with the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in August.
Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Event 1: $350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) August 14-18, 2014
Entries: 2,888 Prize Pool: $866,400
RECAP Event 1 was scheduled for six starting flights and a final day to determine a winner but they needed a few extra levels to finish it up. Dan Suied is a regular in The Poker Room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and he was the last player standing at the end to earn $110,349 after a four-way deal.
“I love this place.” Suied said, “The Hard Rock is my home, it’s great to get this one done.”
The $350 buy-in Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em tournament was the first on the series schedule and drew 2,888 players across three opening flights. Only 462 players survived to come back for Day 2 with Mark Spies in the lead with nearly 491,000. He lost half his stack near the start of play but was able to hold on to finish 25th.
The money bubble burst when 250 players remained and the tournament quickly picked up steam. More than 100 players were eliminated in the hour after the bubble before it slowed at the end of the evening. They formed the final table after midnight and stopped play at the end of Level 33 with eight players remaining.
Reinaldo Tronconis came back for the extra day with a healthy chip lead and it stayed that way until he lost a big pot to David Smith late in play. Michael Tufaro began as the short stack, plus a late arrival, and was gone after just a few hands. Steele Sutter and Glen Cressman soon followed him out the door before Suied won a big race at the five-handed table.
On the last hand before the break, Suied called a shove from Raminder Singh and won the race with against . The hand eliminated Singh and put Suied well ahead of the pack. The four remaining players went on break and that would end up as the last hand of the tournament.
They made quick work of chopping up the remaining $365,594 in prize money with Suied’s big stack earning him $110,349 along with the Event 1 trophy and a custom framed photograph provided by IMPDI with event information plaque.
Suied will soon be back to grinding in The Poker Room at Seminole Hard Rock where he is a regular in the 5/10 and 10/25 No Limit Hold’em games. His opponents may not be happy with his bigger bankroll.
“I’ve got some more 3-betting power.” Suied joked, “But man, what a party.”
Suied has some big scores to his credit but this is the biggest of his career. His previous top payouts include a 6th place finished in a 2013 WSOP Circuit event at the Palm Beach Kennel Club and an unofficial final table appearance at the 2013 WPT Canadian Spring Championship. Suied plans to play a full slate of tournaments during the rest of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open with an eye towards another win.
“It’s good to pop one.” he said, “I had a couple final tables but it’s nice to get a six-digit score.”
