Event 1: Registration Closed

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 7: 250/500/50 ante

Registration closed at the start of Level 7 and the numbers are in. Flight 1E drew a nice crowd of 681 entrants bringing the total for Event 1 to 2,266 with one more starting field to go at 7pm. The prizepool is closing in on $700,000 for a very nice return on investment for a $350 buy-in.

Those remaining are trying to join the 239 players who survived their time in the first four flights. Everyone who bags up chips will return tomorrow and play down to a champion.

Event 1: Angel Ascending

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 6: 75/150

SHRP Player of the Year leader Angel Vu hasn’t been having much luck in her early Event 1 flights but that might be changing today.

We caught the action with Vu facing a big shove from the 6-seat with the board reading 6d4s3s7d. She took her time and finally stood up when she called with AcAh. She was happy to see her opponent wasn’t holding a Five but she needed to dodge a 11 outs against As7s.

The river was a blank 2h and Vu clapped her hands and stacked his chips to move among the early leaders with 57,000.

Event 1: Counting Stacks

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 6: 200/400/50 ante

Flight 1E has reached the final level for players to get in the game and it’s already a packed house. The number of entrants topped 625 shortly after the break which is more than 200 players over last night’s field.

We tracked some of the big stacks in the room and they are building fast.

Juan Chiumerini – 65,000
Massenat Pierrot – 64,950
Phillip Goding – 64,375
Tomislav Krizanic – 63,700
Eddie Turner – 59,975

Card cappers/protectors are a fairly normal part of the game at this point. Players know they have to protect their hand and most opt to just toss a chip on top while some have a lucky charm. Greg “Fossilman” Raymer uses a fossil, Humberto Brenes uses a little shark, there is one regular in the room who uses an “Easy” button.

More than a few exotic versions in the room today but there are two sitting next to each other at table 40. Shawn Miller is sporting a mini-Hulk while Michael Hobbs is a fan of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Event 1: Break Them Up

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 4: 100/200

Players are off on their first break of the day with the tournament board showing 567 players already in the massive field with two more levels to register/re-enter.

More familiar faces are filling the room. John Binnis and “Miami John” Cernuto are back in action after finishing 2nd and 3rd in Event 2. Seminole Hard Rock Poker Room regulars Errol Massey, Danit Dayan, Jessica Rosado, and Silvia Jordan still have chips in the game.

Event 1: Still Growing

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 3: 75/150

There seems to be no end in the stream of players getting in the action as the clock rolls past noon. The number of entrants jumped over 450 for flight 1E with a line at the registration desk. The previous top flight was last night when they closed with 422 in the field.

More regulars continue to join the fun. Mr Nigel Murray is back once again and the talkative player has been having no luck in Event 1. Mike Beasley, with his $1.3 million in career earnings, is here taking his first shot in this event.

It also looks like we’ll have our first WSOP Main Event champion in the field later this evening when Jamie Gold tries his hand in a big field tournament.

Event 1: Level and Field Up

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 2: 50/100

It’s turning out to be a huge day for Event 1 as more than 370 players are registered as the tournament moves into the second level of the day. Among the early crowd are Peter Striano, Nancy Birnbaum, and Angel Vu back for another shot.

Event 1: Day 1E is Underway

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 1: 25/50

The final day of Event 1 is underway with the fifth of six starting flights. Players have two more shots to earn a piece of the $500,000 guaranteed prizepool, an amount exceeded before cards were in the air this morning. Day 1E has cards in the air with the last chance kicking off at 7pm.

The first four flight drew 1,585 players with 239 surviving to make it through to the final day. The current Event 1 chip leader is David Haas who finished 1D with 491,500.

Players began with 20,000 in their stack, 30-minute levels, and they will complete 15 levels before bagging for the night. The flights today could be the biggest of the tournament.

We will be here with live coverage from the start of 1E until the end of 1F.
