High Roller Day 1: Stakes Getting Higher

$25,400 High Roller Event (Re-Entry)
Level 9: 1,200/2,400/400 Ante

The players have hit their dinner break in the High Roller and there’s more money on the line than anyone thought possible.  72 entries have now recorded taking the prize pool to $1,800,000.

It’s quite an eclectic mix of players in the private high roller room with many of the top superstars in the game plus some players you may not be as familiar with.

Andy Philachack has over 1.6 million dollars in tournament earnings including a WSOP circuit main event title and has twice just missed winning a WSOP bracelet having two runner-up finishes.

Also in the field is someone many players here at Seminole Hard Rock are familiar with – Bruce “SkullCrusher” Kramer.  Kramer and his ever-present crystal skull card protector are looking to destroy the competition here on Day 1.

As a side note, we’re lucky that the Kramer’s card protector has not been at the same table with Phil Laak so far.  Phil has gone to the glowing super-goggles and the shine off the two might be too much for everyone to handle.

High Roller Day 1: Easy Pass

$25,400 High Roller Event (Re-Entry)
Level 3: 300/600

Players in the $25,000 High Roller are in their own separate tournament room with all the amenities you’d expect for the buy-in. A nice lounge area with food, with comfy seats and an attentive bartender.

They found out pretty early they’d be playing for more than the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. There were 39 entrants at the start of Level 2 and 47 as they head off on their first break. The current prize pool stands at $1,175,000 with late registration and re-entry open until 9:45pm.

Most of the usual High Roller suspects are in attendance including Jason Mercier, Brian Hastings, David “Doc” Sands, Phil Laak, and more.

RECAP
Today’s Pot Limit Omaha High/Low event played out in just under 13 hours.  It was over when the final five players decided they would chop up the remaining prize pool evenly.  As the chip leader, 1st place, the trophy, and framed photo went to local poker pro Robert Campbell.

The other four spots were awarded by chip count:

2nd – Errol Massey $3,168
3rd – Kevin Love $3,168
4th – George Boyadjian $3,168
5th – Claudangelo Beaudouin $3,168

This event drew 92 players on the next-to-last day of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.  The final nine players earned a piece of the prize pool.

“This series is great,” said Campbell.  “Too bad we can’t play in this room all the time.”  He has several cashes during this series including a 5th place finish in the PLO/NLH event.  He finished 30th in the WSOP Main Event this summer for over $230,000.

Campbell earned player of the series back in the Spring and is currently 6th on the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year Leaderboard with 1,494 points.  He’ll pick up some more tonight, but doesn’t know if he’ll be able to catch leader Angel Vu.  He’s going to give it a try, however, and will be back tomorrow on the final day to play whatever events are running.
