Shawn Cunix

Shawn Cunix was raking in a pot from the big blind when we showed up at the table, and said he wanted to set the record for winning most hands in a row. Cunix has been in a very talkative mood, and basically provided live commentary for every hand in this post.

So the counter starts at one.

The next hand, a player limped from middle position for 600, Cunix raised from the small blind to 2,000, and his opponent called. Both players checked to the turn on a board of As8s3s8d, his opponent checked, Cunix bet 5,000, and his opponent folded. Cunix showed one card — the 4d — as he took the pot.

That’s two hands in a row for Cunix.

Shawn Cunix  –  95,000  (158 bb)

The next hand, Cunix raised from the button to 2,000, and the big blind called. The flop came 7c7s6s, the big blind checked, Cunix bet 2,000, and the big blind folded. Cunix took the pot.

That’s three in a row for Cunix.

Shawn Cunix  –  98,000  (163 bb)

The next hand, the UTG+1 player limped for 600, and Cunix raised from the cutoff to 2,000. Vladimir Vasilyev called from the big blind, and the UTG+1 player also called. Vasilyev checked in the dark.

All three players checked to the turn on a board of Jd9d5c9c, and it checked to Cunix, who bet 8,000. Vasilyev called, and the UTG+1 player folded.

The river card was the 7s, Vasilyev checked, Cunix bet 16,000, and Vasilyev called. Cunix smiled and said he had a nine.

Vasilyev asked, “Nine what?”

“Oh crap,” said Cunix, who showed 9h4d. Vasilyev turned over Qh9s to win the pot, and end Cunix’s streak at three hands in a row.

Vladimir Vasilyev  –  84,000  (140 bb)
Shawn Cunix  –  72,000  (120 bb)

The next hand, Cunix raised from the hijack to 2,000, taking the blinds and ante.

Shawn Cunix  –  73,500  (123 bb)

The next hand, Cunix raised from middle position to 1,700, Vasilyev raised from the button to 4,400, and Cunix called. Both players checked to the river on a board of Ah8s3sAc2s. Cunix checked, Vasilyev bet 3,000, and Cunix called.

Vasilyev showed KhKc to win the pot, and Cunix mucked, saying he had pocket fours.

Vladimir Vasilyev  –  92,500  (154 bb)
Shawn Cunix  –  66,000  (110 bb)

The next hand, Cunix raised from middle position to 2,000, the player in the hijack reraised to 5,800, and Cunix called. The flop came KcQs8d, Cunix checked, his opponent bet 6,500, and Cunix called.

The turn card was the Ad, Cunix bet 15,000, and his opponent tanked for a very long time before folding. Cunix took the pot.

The next hand, Cunix raised UTG+1 to 2,000, the player in the small blind called, and Carlo Rodriguez called from the big blind. The flop came Kd6c3c, the small blind checked, and Rodriguez bet 2,600. Cunix raised to 8,500, the small blind folded, and Rodriguez called.

The turn card was the 5s, and both players checked. The river card was the Ad, Rodriguez checked, Cunix bet 15,500, and Rodriguez went into the tank for a very long time.

Cunix continued talking to Rodriguez, and after a while, was actively encouraging him to call.

Rodriguez eventually called, and Cunix said, “See how easy that was? You won.” Cunix let out a deep breath and added, “That was exhausting.”

Cunix showed 8s2s for eight high, and Rodriguez turned over Kc4s to win the pot with a pair of kings.

Carlo Rodriguez  –  78,000  (130 bb)
Shawn Cunix  –  54,000  (90 bb)

Note:  At this point, Shawn Cunix had played eight hands in a row without ever folding his cards. This post is already absurdly long, so we’re going to stop here and put the remaining action into a separate post. The second part shouldn’t be nearly as long.
