$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 8: 400/800 with a 800 ante
Flight A Entries: 331

Michael Newman

We are heading towards the end of registration in Flight A and they cracked 300 entries with plenty of time to spare. Michael Newman recently joined his new table and he grabbed a seat next to the previously mentioned Jason Young.

Newman has plenty of SHRP wins including his run as the 2017 Rock ‘N’ Roller Poker Champion. In more recent news, he kicked off his Lucky Hearts Poker Open series with a win in the Ultimate Re-Entry opening event. Newman followed that big score with his first WSOP Circuit ring in the $400 Coco WSOPC turbo event.

Level 5: 400/800 Limits

Phil Hui

The Omaha 8 tournament recently came back from their first break and the field moved over 50 entries while they were gone. A fine turnout for the specialty game so far with more expected.

Notables in early action include Eric Rivkin, Brian Gelrod, and David Shmuel along with Phil Hui coming off an Omaha 8 victory during the 2019 Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

Jason Young

The last time we saw Jason Young in a major Hollywood tournament, he was the one posing for the trophy pictures.

He is having a pretty decent start to his 2019. The WSOP bracelet winner began the 2019 SHR Lucky Hearts Poker Open with a final table appearance in the massive 4,500-field Ultimate Re-Entry starting event and bookended his series with a $263,000 win as the WPTDeepStacks Hollywood champion.

Young carried that success up the road to our sister room in Coconut Creek for the WSOP Circuit series. He went deep in the Main Event and a two-outer denied another title but that third-place finish put another $111,000 in his bankroll.

Event 1 Flight A: Sanu Singh Leads the Way

Sanu Singh

Players returned to their seats and Level 5 is underway with another dozen entries jumping in during the break. Everyone is chasing Sanu Singh in the early levels and he came back to a stack worth 86,000 for the clear lead.

Other notable bigger stacks include Daniel Vo (73,000), Michael Tureniec (58,000), Dimitry Agrachov (50,000), Rob Brown (48,000), Mark Nahama (47,000), Jacquelyn Scott (45,900), andThomas DiPietro (45,000).

Nancy Birnbaum

South Florida is not short on poker talent and it is not gender-specific. The area seems to contain some of the best female players in the game and they continue to run up the scores. Jennifer David was the most recent to make a big run when she finished third out of 1,537 entries in the Seminole Turnpike series for more than $30,000.

But they had to start somewhere and this weekend we have a great learning opportunity for some of our beginners. Prior to the $10,000 Guarantee Ladies Event, we are hosting an Instruction Brunch with WPT Commentator Tony Dunst giving a 90-minute rundown on the game. It starts at 11:30 and it will be a great warmup before the Ladies Event kicks off at 3pm. You can sign up in the poker room but entry is limited to the first 50 who join.

Event 2: First Trophy

$360 Limit Omaha 8 (Re-Entry)
Structure
Level 1: 100/200 Limits

While the opening event of the series is cruising along in the middle of the Event Center, we are ready to begin our first non-hold’em tournament on the schedule on the side. Event 2 is a $360 Limit Omaha 8 game, split pots all day long with the first trophy awaiting the winner.

Players start with 12,000 stacks and all levels will last 30 minutes today. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30pm with re-entries available during that time should a player lose their stack. There is a dinner break scheduled at 6pm and the remaining players will return to play it down to the winner later this evening.

Brian Hastings (left) and Michael Tureniec (right)

The entry count quickly jumped over 100 after the start of the day and the luck of the draw put to of the toughest players next to each other.

Brian Hastings and Michael Tureniec are sitting next to each other and they have nearly $8,000,000 in combined earnings (that’s just live poker, both have huge results online) along with five WSOP bracelets.

Tureniec also has two SHRP trophies including the WPTDeepStacks Immokalee title we hosted. Hastings has four of the five combined bracelets and is a danger in any tournament he enters. But Hastings is running on short rest today after recently returning from his honeymoon.
