Event 16: Michael Aron Doubles Through Jean Gaspard

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em Shootout
Level 3: 600/1,200 with a 200 ante
Players Remaining: 10 of 70

Jean Gaspard opened to 3,200 in early position, Haim Toorgeman called a few seats over, and Jerry Wong called in the cutoff. From the big blind, Michael Aron three-bet to 13,200, and only Gaspard called.

The flop was Js6s3s. Aron continued for 14,500, and Gaspard called. The turn was the 3d, and Aron bet another 24,500. Gaspard called again, and the river was the 8c. Aron moved all in for 51,500, and Gaspard pondered for several minutes before calling to put his opponent at risk.

Aron showed KsKh, and Gaspard flashed his inferior 4s4d as he mucked. Aron won the pot with a pair of kings, doubling up into the chip lead and taking most of Gaspard’s once-mighty stack in the process.

Michael Aron – 216,200 (180 bb)
Jean Gaspard – 11,700 (10 bb)

Aaron Massey (Elmwood Park, IL)
Aaron Massey (Elmwood Park, IL)

The Event 17 field continues to grow at a steady pace and the prize pool has grown over $175,000 with plenty of time to run it up.

We’ve seen a few new faces pop up since the last break including Adam Levy, Aaron Massey, and SHRP team members Matt Stout and Michael Laake.

The news wasn’t so good for Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah. He was seen walking out the door on the other side of the room and his seat no long has a stack out front. He’s not alone among those gone from the freeze-out, we also noted there is someone different sitting in WSOP Main Event champ Joe McKeehen’s seat.

Event 16: Jerry Wong Doubles Through Jean Gaspard

Jerry Wong
Jerry Wong

Jean Gaspard opened to 2,500 under the gun, and Jerry Wong three-bet to 8,000 in middle position. Gaspard four-bet shoved with his big stack, and Wong called all in for 79,900 to put himself at risk.

Gaspard: AhKd
Wong: QhQd

The table reacted in unison as the flop came AsKc6h to give Gaspard two pair. Nick Palma was unconvinced, though. “It’s your year,” he said to Wong. “I can see it coming.”

Sure enough, the Qs peeled off on the turn, giving Wong a big lead with a set of queens. The river was the blank 9d to secure his double up. He moved into the chip lead with that pot, erasing most of Gaspard’s early work in the process.

Jerry Wong – 162,300 (162 bb)
Jean Gaspard – 115,000 (115 bb)

Event 16: Mark Smith Gets it In

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em Shootout

Michael McNeil limped in from early position, and Mark Smith raised to 3,500 a few seats over. Jerry Wong called on the button, and McNeil called the remainder to create three-way action.

The flop was AsJd6c. McNeil checked, Smith continued for 7,000, Wong called, and McNeil folded. The turn was the 7d, and Smith bet 15,000. Wong called, and the river was the 6s. Smith moved all in for just over 50,000, and Wong surrendered his cards into the muck.

Mark Smith – 110,000 (110 bb)
Jerry Wong – 80,000 (80 bb)

Neil Blumenfield awaits his fate
Neil Blumenfield awaits his fate

Neil Blumenfield returned from the first break with less than 5,000 and he put them to work when he returned. He three-bet shoved against Tim Burt and his AdKh was racing QhQd.

“I have all the suits,” Blumenfield joked.

It was indeed that suits that would save him when it ran out a four-flush board with 9h8s3h4h7h to save his Event 17 seat.

Tim Burt – 13,500 (68 bb)
Neil Blumenfield – 11,000 (55 bb)
