Defending champ James Salmon was the bottom stack coming back from break but that quickly switched.

Vitor Coelho and Jon Borenstein checked the Ts8s5d flop before Salmon fired 1.2 million. Coelho pulled the min-check/raise to 2.4 million, Borenstein folded, and Salmon popped it again to 5.8 million total. Coelho called to see the 3d turn and Salmon moved all-in after Coelho checked. The last hand of the level was playing out even as the three remaining players rolled into the break. Then took a few minutes away from the break as well.

Jon Borenstein raised to 1 million from the small blind and James Salmon called to see the 7s6d2d flop. They both checked and Borenstein fired 1.1 million after the Ad turn. Salmon spite-called and Borenstein bet another 2.7 million when the river came Th.

Salmon went into deep thoughts and it looked like he was going to call quickly. Then he sat back and really took his time, finally giving Borenstein permission to call the clock. Salmon’s time was counted down and he finally called with queen-high Qh3d.

And it was good.

Jon Borenstein sent a few millions chips over to James Salmon when his AxQx fell against Ax7x and he was getting some ribbing from Marcus Stein across the table.

“That needle is probably going to cost me,” Stein said as he shipped in his last 2 million from the small blind on the next hand.

Borenstein quickly called in the big blind with QcJs to dominate Stein’s Jh7h. Stein couldn’t catch up as the board ran Kd8d5dJc2s to send him out in 4th place.

Lou Stadler
Lou Stadler

It took two hands to get local favorite Lou Stadler off the final table.

In the first it was James Salmon all-in for 3.6 million with 9d9s and Stadler called with 5s5h. The AcAd8d flop was no good for Stadler and he was drawing dead after the As turn.

He was left with only 1.1 million and moved all-in on the next hand with Ah3h. Vitor Coelho called in the big blind with the dominant Ad9s and hit the 9d7s6c flop. The 8s turn gave Stadler some chop outs but he was eliminated on the 2s river.

Jon Borenstein (left) versus Vitor Coelho (right)

Jon Borenstein took a good sized pot from Vitor Coelho to move further into the lead before Coelho did him one better.

We caught the action with those two heads up to the QdQdTc2h flop/turn and Coelho check/called a 1.4 million bet from Borenstein. Coelho checked dark before the 3d river and Borenstein bet another 3.6 million.

After a short tank, Coelho called the bet and Borenstein quickly tabled KdKc. The big pair wasn’t good enough as Coelho showed his flopped trip queens with QsJs.

It was a big shift with the two big stacks going at each other in consecutive hands. They still hold a comfortable advantage over the other three.

Jon Borenstein – 15,700,000 (52 bb)
Vitor Coelho – 22,250,000 (74 bb)
