Event 1 Day 1F: Gigolo In The House?

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Blinds 200/400 Ante 50

The official number of entrants was 300 bringing us to 1,372 total thus far with one more day and two more flights of play tomorrow. There are 162 players left as we are about to end Level 6.

The show Gigolos on Showtime gained some notoriety from the press when it first came out. One of it’s initial stars and creative consultants is Garren James, @cowboys4angels on Twitter. Garren finished 47th in an event here at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in August taking home $1,194 for his play. He’s here again today looking to add to that total. A recent hand found him all in and in peril of being eliminated. The card he needed hit and he stood up, smiling and let out a loud “Woooooo! Tripled up!” A few hands later he won another big pot, let out another yell, and told the rest of his table “I’m getting dangerous.”

Event 1 Day 1F: Registration Is Closed But There Is Still A Line

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Blinds 150/300

We’ve started Level 5 which means registration is closed. 285 entrants is showing on the tournament clock and on the computer where they are letting alternates in the unofficial number is 302. Still a line as players wait for other players to bust out so they can take a seat. Easily the largest number of entrants we’ve had in any flight yet. It’s easy to understand how there are so many when you see hands like the following:

There is a raise to 600, a re-raise to 1800 from the button, the big blind has about 6K in front of him and calls the 1800. The initial raiser calls as well. The flop comes KCQD5C and the big blind tosses the rest of his chips into the middle. The first player folds and the button snap calls and turns over QSQC for a flopped set of queens. “Well s***,” said the big blind. “I don’t know what I have yet,” he said as he reveals JD8H. He needs a miracle and doesn’t get it… and joins the line of alternates down stairs. It’s almost like they are burning money here. A poker player’s paradise. Appropriate since we’re appropriated right near Seminole Paradise at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood.

Event 1 Day 1F: Are There Rebuys?

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Blinds 100/200

With only 3K in chips left, 5K in chips in the pot, and facing an all in bet from his opponent, a player looked at the dealer and asked him “are there rebuys?” The dealer nodded his head affirmatively. “Well in that case, I call,” said the short stack, turning over 8H7H on a 5H7C9DKS board. His opponent held ADKD and was able to felt the short stack when a harmless 2S fell on the river. “I’ll be back,” joked the felted player.

And it’s that kind of gambling behavior that is leading to the biggest number of entrants we’ve had thus far in Event 1 here at Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open”. We’re already over 250 entrants and there is a line at least 20 deep looking to get into the tournament. There are 25 minutes left so there is a good chance we might approach 300 before all is said and done.

Event 1 Day 1F: Players Filing In

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Blinds 25/50

It’s looking like a busy night of poker action here at The Poker Room at Seminole Hard Rock as Event 1 Day 1F is getting underway and we already have 127 players registered just 10 minutes into the first level. Players are streaming in steadily, and many of them look to be following the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino motto to “play hard” – some laughter, cocktails, and poker. What more could you ask for on a Florida Friday night?

We’ll be here covering the tournament all night long. Hope you will follow along with us!

Event 1 Day 1E: Play Comes to an End

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

It was a hectic last 10 minutes of the day as several short-stacks took a stab at doubling up and a few of them fell to our end of Day 1E chipleader Osvaldo Amor.

He knocked out three players in three hands, the final when his Qd Td outraced his opponent’s 4s 4h with a ten on the flop. Amor ended his day with 232,200 which is good enough for 3rd on the combined Day 1 leaderboard. He did well to make it deep and finish with the lead after earning a short penalty from the floor staff earlier in the day.

The starting field of 226 was whittled 24 players returning for Day 2. Players are already in the room getting ready for Day 1F and we’ll continue coverage when they get underway.

Top 5 Chip Counts from Day 1E:

Osvaldo Amor – 232,200
Sean Martin – 175,500
Dominic Frisby – 174,600
David Jacobs – 142,700
Richard Contell – 142,700

Event 1 Day 1E: Battle of the Blinds

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Running a big hand into a bigger hand late in a tournament is a tough situation, especially when both hands are in the blinds. Sometimes the dealer bails you out.

The 1-seat on Table 35 three-bet an early position raise from the small blind with Ts Td before the big blind moved all-in with Qs Qd. The original raiser got out the way and the 1-seat was halfway out of his chair when the dealer pealed off the Jd Th 3s flop. He sat back down as the 2-seat cut out enough chips to pay off 66,000 and change.

One final left in the day and 30 remain with blinds at 1.2k/2.4k/300 ante.

Event 1 Day 1E: Final Four

$100 + $25 No Limit Hold’Em Deep Stack

Perhaps some players have a dinner reservation because the pace of play picked up over the last level instead of slowing down as stacks increase. Day 1E is not down to the final four tables leaving just 36 of the starting 226 able to move onto Day 2.

They hit the four table mark in a big hand which was destined to be all-in when the cards were dealt. The small blind three-bet after a middle position open and the big blind followed by moving all-in for 32,000. The first player mucked his hand but the small blind instantly called leaving just one 5k chip behind.

The small blind flipped over two red Aces while his opponent needed a lot of help with Kd Ks. Two big hands in the blinds. Disaster looked apparent when the flop brought the Kc in the door. It looked like the small blind player would have to test the old adage of “a chip and a chair” but the suck-resuck card came right on the turn with the As. No miracle river quads for the big blind and they are down to four tables.
