RECAP
The 125 entries into the Purple Chip Bounty tournament generated a prize pool of $125,000 with $500 of each buy-in going towards the bounty portion of the tournament. It was supposed to be a 2 day tournament, but when 3am rolled around and they were still heads-up…they bagged and tagged to come back for a Day 3. And what a Day 3 it was, with heads up play lasting 3 hours as neither Derrick Simon nor Ian O’Hara would give up on this one. At the end though, Simon was able to chip away at the stack of O’Hara and ultimately take the title of Event 21 $1,650 Purple Chip Bounty NLH Champion and win the grand prize of $37,648!

Derrick Simon had an extremely good SHRPO. He final tabled Event #8 $560 Buy-In $1 Million guarantee in 5th place just 10 days ago, taking home a score of $71,768. He also cashed in the SHRPO $10 Million guarantee Championship Main Event in 166th place. Simon, who currently calls Florida his home, is originally from Jamaica and had a good amount of supporters during heads up play to cheer him on. He noted that two particular hands stood out to help propel him to his final table run. One was when his pocket 4s made a full boat against his adversary’s nut flush to double him up. The other was when he shoved with A9 and had 3 callers, he ended up making the nut flush to triple up and keep him in the game.

Simon is a recreational player who owns an auto mechanic shop in the area. However, he loves the game of poker, loves playing tournaments and cash games at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood and would like to play more if he can. With today’s win and his big score earlier in the SHRPO, he can definitely afford to do so. Ian O’Hara gets $20,708 for his runner-up finish.
