Nipun Java has been having a pretty nice time over the last few months. The pro grinder began his run with a deep finish in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown for a 22nd place cash then followed up with a win in Event 27 the next day.

Java rode the hot streak into his summer at the WSOP and picked up his first two career bracelets. Both were in unique events; one in the $1,000 Tag Team event (to give India its first WSOP win) and the second was the WSOP Online Championship.

The first break has come and gone and players are back in their seats. They’ll play four more levels, take another break, and registration will close at the start of Level 9.

We found our early chip leader among the crowd in the meeting room. Marc Spiewak leads them all with 72,750 while nearby neighbor Dmitry Konikov sits with 65,600.

Top counts and random stacks:

Marc Spiewak – 72,750 (243 bb)

Level 4: 100/200 with a 25 ante
Flight C Entries: 324

The clock is ticking down on Level 4 and players will take their first break of the day at the top of the hour. Flight C is ahead of the pace set by the big field in Flight A and we expect more people to show up as they take time off for the weekend.

Andy Spears is back with us for some SHRPO action and aiming for his SHRP title. The circuit grinder picked up his first WSOP Circuit ring in 2013 and his most recent victory was over more than 1,800 entries in the Borgata Almighty Stack event in January. Spears has come close here in the past and finished second in the 2016 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown turbo tournament.

Level 3: 75/150 with a 25 ante
Flight C Entries: 287

Flight C continues to build up the numbers and they are now located in two separate rooms. The main field is seated in the ballroom and the meeting room tables across the hall are now in use.

We found former SHRP champ Sean Shah among those on that side of the hallway. He owns four SHRP trophies including the $570 Six-Max title a few months ago during the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.

Level 2: 50/100
Flight C Entries: 231

Flight C is close to pushing the numbers past the halfway point on the way to the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. When we hit 264, Event 1 will be less than $500,000 away from crossing into seven-digits with three complete flights and more than six levels here to register.

Michael Newman gave it a shot yesterday but was unable to build a bag later in the day. He’s back in the ballroom and already running up his 20,000 starting stack.

Newman can hit a big milestone if he picks up another trophy. He is sitting on nine titles here and going for double digits with his last one coming during the Deep Stack Series in May.

Newman also had a nice streak going that was broken during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. Previous to that series, he picked up a trophy in the last three big series with SHRPO, RRPO, LHPO titles.

Level 1: 25/50
Flight C Entries: 170

Flight C is off to a quick start with 170 already in the game before the end of the first level. Each new one gets that much closer to pushing over the $1,000,000 Guarantee.

Brian Hastings is among the early adopters and one of the more accomplished players we will see this series. He was a tough heads up opponent during the glory days of online poker and turned that into a WSOP Heads Up bracelet in 2012. Hastings followed that up three years later with two more WSOP bracelets and solidified his reputation as a well-rounded player with titles in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and the 10-Game Mix event.

Before any of that success, Hastings earned his first career live tournament win right here when he picked up $213,000 back in 2011 for winning the WPT Regional Summer Splash Championship

Level 1: 25/50

The second day of the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open is upon us with another two rounds of Event 1 opening flights.

Yesterday’s flights drew a combined 737 entries to the $570 buy-in $1 Million Guaranteed tournament for a perfect pace to start the series. There were 147 players putting chips in bags with 2016 SHRPO $1,100 Big 4 champ Ruslan Dykshteyn leading them through Flight B.

There are four more flights remaining with two running today at 11am and 6pm followed by the last two tomorrow. Day 2 will combine all the survivors on Sunday at 1pm when they begin the grind to find the Event 1 champion.

Each entrant will sit down to a 20,000 starting stack and play 30-minute levels throughout the day. Late registration is open until the start of Level 9 at 3:30pm with unlimited re-entries available during that time. Flight C will wrap up their day at the end of Level 14 with those remaining moving on to Day 2.

Cards are about to fly and we will see if anyone can Dykshtey at the top of the counts.
