Event 10 Flight C: The End-of-Day Money Bubble Bursts Before It Begins

$600 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$250,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 17:  3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 ante
Flight C Players Remaining:  33 of 259

Gregory Pessine

The field lost one player at the start of Level 17, and then shortly after that there was a three-way all-in situation at Table 1 with pocket kings as the big stack against pocket tens and pocket eights.

Gregory Pessine had the eights, and he was all in for just 8,000 in chips — just a bit more than a single big blind.

If the pocket kings held up, the Money Bubble would be burst before hand-for-hand play could even begin.

Big Stack:  KsKc
Medium Stack:  10h10c
Gregory Pessine:  8s8c

The board came Js5s3sQh8d, and Pessine spiked an eight on the river to win the main pot and triple up to 40,000 in chips (technically he quintupled his stack).

Gregory Pessine  –  40,000  (7 bb)

The player with pocket tens was eliminated, which means the field was on the Money Bubble, and hand-for-hand play would begin as soon as the hands in progress came to an end.

Mohammed Ayyash
Mohammed Ayyash

But one of those hands in progress had a player all in from the hijack for 56,000 against Mohammed Ayyash, and the short stack in the big blind tanked for a while before folding.

The player in the hijack turned over As7s, but was dominated by the Ayyash’s AhQc.

The board came AdQd4dJc3d, and Ayyash won the pot with two pair to eliminate his opponent and burst the Money Bubble before hand-for-hand play could even begin.

Mohammed Ayyash  –  253,000  (42 bb)

The players are now bagging up their chips, and the full list of official chip counts thru Flight C will be posted later tonight.

Flight 10C Field

The previous two flights for this event both ended during Level 15 (with 12 minutes left in Flight A, and 20 minutes left in Flight B).

But Flight C has been stagnating for a while. They started Level 15 with 41 players, but quickly dropped down to 37. That was about 45 minutes ago, and they’ve only lost one player in that time.

Most recently, a short stack just got it all in with pocket kings against pocket aces, but a king on the flop kept him alive and kept the field at 36 players.

Level 17 has just begun, with increased blinds of 3,000-6,000, and the average chip stack has dropped in value to just 24 big blinds.

Action will continue in this flight until there are 33 players left, and when the field reaches 34, they will begin hand-for-hand play.

The players return from break to begin Level 15, with increased blinds of 2,000-4,000 and a 4,000 ante.

With 41 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 126,000 (32 big blinds), and the field will play down until there are 33 players remaining. Everyone who survives will advance to Day 2, where they will already be in the money.

A scan of the field during the break turned up just two players with at least 300K in chips, creating an unofficial leaderboard:

1.  Valentino Lettieri  –  322,000  (81 bb)
2.  Kharlin Sued  –  316,000  (79 bb)

With the final board showing 7h5d2h6d3d, the under-the-gun player checked, Valentino Lettieri bet 80,000 from the button, and his opponent went into the tank for a long time until Lettieri called for a clock.

About 10-15 seconds later, the UTG player moved all in for about 83,000, and Lettieri called.

The UTG player showed QdQc for an overpair, but Lettieri turned over 9s8s for a turned nine-high straight to win the pot and eliminate his opponent from Flight C.

Valentino Lettieri  –  322,000  (107 bb)

With 41 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 126,000 (42 big blinds), and the field will play down until there are 33 players remaining. Everyone who survives will advance to Day 2, where they will already be in the money.

It’s been a nice, relaxed morning in the Grand Ballroom. A good group of players grinding a big tournament and trying to pick up chips.

Their journey will be paused shortly when tournament staff send them on the first break of the day. Time to regroup, refresh, and come back for another four levels.
