$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 8: 300/600/75 Ante
Event 10 is on its second break of the day with registration closing at the start of Level 9. There are 399 entrants showing on the board, just one away from a nice round number.
Tournament staff are coloring off the green quarter chips and we’ll be hunting down some leaders.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 7: 250/500/50 Ante
WSOP Circuit winner, WPT Seminole Lucky Heart Poker Open final tablist, and all around South Florida good guy Darryll Fish has taken a seat in his first event of the series looking to increase his $1.8 million in career earnings.
Fish drew his seat right next to Zach Kessler, and we’re not sure who will get the most words in between the two but it won’t be boring.
Also returning today is David Jackson after a good night’s rest. He left the ballroom in the early morning hours after finishing 6th at the Event 5 final table.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 6: 200/400/50 Ante
The early numbers show a trend that should easily carry Event 10 a $1,000,000 prize pool with 350 entrants and climbing.
WPT champ and WSOP Circuit winner Ryan Van Sanford is making his first appearance during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open and looking to add to his $576,000 in career earnings.
South Florida regular grinder Zach Kessler is back in the house after taking some time away from the table and grinding comfortably in the middle of the ballroom.
Back in ft Lauderdale in 3 hours. Haven’t been home since early May, super stoked to get back
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 4: 150/300/25 Ante
Flight 1A is back in action with a few more jumping in during the break to bring the current entrant count to 325. We have a nice group of player who enjoyed their first four levels of action.
Ron Levy held the first break lead by a single 1K chip over Ivan Barbuto and Jason Wandling rounds out the three-person list of those who tripled up in the first four levels. We see a couple newcomers in the counts including Peter Striano and Tom Dobrilovic are back playing in the ballroom.
Ron Levy – 66,000 (220 bb) Ivan Barbuto – 65,000 (217 bb) Jason Wandling – 61,500 (205 bb) Joseph Villatico – 56,625 (189 bb) Shmuel Zalmanov – 55,075 (184 bb) Antonio Velaquez – 53,600 (179 bb) Paulius Bikus – 53,525 (178 bb) Conrad Lau – 50,575 (169 bb) Tom Dobrilovic – 48,350 (161 bb) Peter Striano – 47,425 (158 bb)
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 4: 100/200
Players are on their first break of the day just as the entrant count clicked over 300 for the opening flight. A fine number with more than two and half hours left to register for this flight.
We’ll return with the first round of counts and find our leaders.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 4: 100/200
Flight 1A has one more level to play before going off on the first break. We’re on the hunt for the early leaders but they are pesky hidden treasures with green quarter chips still on the table and antes still to come.
Aaron Massey made his way to the tables for the first time this series, an Event 10 early adopter while his contemporaries get a little extra sleep. Massey has over $2.5 million in career earnings including 11 tournament victories, two WSOP Circuit rings, and the 2014 Heartland Poker Tour Player of the Year.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 3: 75/150
Players keep piling into the game and there’s no stopping them now. The entrant count crossed another big number at the start of Level 3 and they are opening more tables as they continue to enter.
We have a few players in the room with recent success. Giorgio Medici had a deep run in the $150 buy-in/$150,000 Guarantee Event 5 and was the first player to reach a 1 million stack. It took a bad beat to send him out but he’s back for another shot.
Jeffrey Trudeau was in that same game and had his turn atop the leadboard. He made the final table but had to settle for an 8th place finish after a bad run. John Cofhlin, 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Seniors Champion, was also a factor late in Event 5 but he missed out on the final table.
Kathy Fleck showed her skills at different poker variants a few days ago when she final table the H.O.R.S.E. tournament with a 5th place finish in Event 6.
Bruce McGregor picked up his second Seminole Hard Rock Poker title when he won that HORSE title Monday night. His first win here came a few months ago during the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open.
McGregor is seated next to local regular Luis Santoni, the four-time Seminole Hard Rock Poker champion who’s last win came in November in another H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 2: 50/100
It looks like it’s going to be a great day in the ballroom as Flight 1A has grown to over 200 entrants before we reach the afternoon hours. Thursday morning is usually the slowest of the six starters so we expect some nice crowds as we move into the weekend.
We have a few familiar faces in the field already including Eric Pideriet, NBA start Earl Barron, and one-time Event 1 leader Antonio Albanes. Others are taking their time getting to their seats and we had an Aaron Massey showing earlier, though he has yet to get into the action.
$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 1: 25/50
The second week of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open is upon us and we’re rolling into it with a big tournament. Event 10 is $570 buy-in tournament with a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool and a nice chunk of money for the winner.
This tournament drew nearly 2,767 entrants last year with the eventual winner, Riley Fuller, taking home just shy of $240,000. That’s good money for a few days work.
This is the first of six starting flights running between now and Saturday. They’ll kick off at 11am and 6pm today, Friday, and Saturday. Those who bag chips at the end of the flight will return on Sunday for Day 2.
Players will sit down to deep 20,000 stacks and play 30-minute levels on Day 1. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at approximately 3:30pm. They will play 14 levels before the survivors finish up and get ready for Sunday.
The action is about ready to go once tournament staff have the daily reading of the rules and get players in their seats.
2015 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $2,200 Eight Game Mix (Single Re-Entry)
April 13-14th, 2015
Total Entries: 15 Total Prize Pool: $30,000
Recap:
Event 10 did not draw a huge field to the tables but it was extremely talented with multiple WSOP and WPT titles represented. There were 15 players involved but in the end it was Jason Mercier running roughshod over the field late to claim the $18,000 top prize to the title.
Cory Zeidman was back to defend his title from this event at the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown but the WSOP bracelet winner fell short of the final table. Jonathan Duhamel, 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion, made his first appearance in the ballroom since February but also failed to contend for the title. Anthony Zinno was one of the first to enter the tournament but the presumptive WPT Player of the Year was the first sent out of the tournament.
Play ended on Day 1 with just six players remaining and two of them set to split the prize pool. Mercier had a comfortable lead at the start of Day 2 and never looked back. Fellow WSOP bracelet winner Brian Hastings was an early knockout and Mercier found himself facing Ben Yogel and Marcello Costa on the money bubble.
Mercier turned up the pressure and eventually forced his opponents into submission. Costa and Yogel worked out a deal to chop 2nd place evenly between them leaving the first place $18,000 all to Mercier alone.
It was an impressive run across all eight variants of the game and Mercier proved once again he is among the best poker players in the world. He picked up his cash along with the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown trophy and custom, framed print from IMPDI.
Results:
1st: Jason Mercier (Hollywood, FL) – $18,000 2nd: Ben Yogel (Boca Raton, FL) – $12,000
