Level 11: 1000/2000 Limits

For anyone that plays split pot games, keeping your cool isn’t easy when someone is chasing a hand and helping to drive up a pot. This Stud Hi/Lo hand was no exception as Grady Yeager, Jr. was driving the action with kings showing while a second opponent and Anita Pearl were after a low. Pearl with 2-5-7-8 showing was clearly ahead of the second player’s 3-8-9-10 but the action keep flying to Pearl’s frustration. When 7th street came around the opponent sitting between Yeager and Pearl finally folded and they split the pot. Pearl was not clearly not happy about the chase nearly draining her chips and she stacked her share of the pot shaking her head.

Level 11: 1000/2000 Limits

Kevin Mathers was essentially in for his tournament life with his table playing Razz. Mathers had vs his opponent’s . On the final card, Mathers confidently fired the rest of this his stack. His opponent said “There’s no way I can win this hand” and folded giving Mathers a de facto double-up to a little over 16,000.

Since the last post, five more players have hit the rail and we’re down to 31 remaining in Event 10.

Level 10:  Limits 800/1,600

The HORSE players have returned from their dinner break and are back in action.

Kevin Mathers, John Holley, and Jack ‘Team Snake’ Deutsch are still in the field.

Only 38 remain and one of them is NOT Angel Vu.  She’s busted out and on to the next event:

Level 9: 600/1200 Limits

40 players have survived to the dinner break in the H.O.R.S.E. tournament and will be coming back on Level 9 facing 600/1200 limits in around a half-hour.

57 players remain of the 74 grinders that started today’s H.O.R.S.E. tournament. They are currently at Level 8 500/1k limits, with an average chip stack of 13K.

Level 3: 100/200 Limits

The H.O.R.S.E. players is on their first break and one level remains to register or re-enter should someone bust out. There are currently 74 registered with a few more in line to get in the game.

One of those is current Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year front-runner Angel Vu. She is chasing points in every game she can enter, even if she doesn’t know how to play.

Vu commented last night that she was heading home to study up on the poker variations in H.O.R.S.E. since she’s never actually played them. Beginner’s luck seems to be doing well for Vu as she’s more than doubled her starting stack by the first break.

Level 1: 50/100 Limits

Two familiar faces in the poker world are starting play in Event 10.

First, “Miami” John Cernutto has taken his seat.  With his cash in the Seniors Event last night, Cernutto has already three cashes in this series including two top-three finishes.  Expect Cernutto to be one of the favorites in this event.

Also in the field is poker media’s Kevin Mathers.  Mathers made the trip from Atlanta to play in this event.  He is well on his way to make his self-stated goal of “making the antes” – approximately 17 hands into the event.  After winning the first two hands he played he excitedly said he was “above starting stack.”

Level 1: 50/100 Limits

The 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open has featured all No Limit or Pot Limit games until today. Event 10 is a $250 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. tournament where they will rotate through Hold’em, Omaha/o, Razz, Stud Hi, and Stud/8. All games are limit betting and it’s also the first appearance of Stud games during the poker series. They will play eight hands of each before moving on to the next game.

Players begin with 10,000 stacks and play 40-minute levels. They are scheduled to play down to the final table or through Level 16, whichever comes first. If they make the final table, they have the option of voting to continue if all agree.

H.O.R.S.E. is a nice test of a player’s all-around poker skill level and we’re sure to see some nice plays.
