Level 22: Blinds 8k/16k/2k ante

Paul Balzano got his last chips in holding and was trailing Lawrence Bass’ pocket 6s.  The board flew out and Lawrence improved to a set to take the pot.

Paul Balzano reported to the rail in 3rd place, earning $2,892.

Level 22: Blinds 8k/16k/2k ante

Paul Balzano limped from the button and both blinds came along for a flop of .  It was checked to Paul, who bet 20k.  Bruce MacGregor called from the small blind and the big blind folded.

Turn was the and both players checked the scare-card.  River was the and Bruce bet 50k.  Paul called.

Bruce rolled over for the nut flush and Paul’s (lower flush) was crushed.  Bruce chipped up to nearly 500k while Paul was left short with ~35k.

Then Paul got all-in for 33k and Hyon Chun called from the big blind holding .  Paul’s pocket Kings turned into quads with the board and he doubled up, leaving Hyon with only 15k.

Hyon was soon all-in for 13k (sb) with K9 suited against Paul’s Q7 off.  The board ran out A 9 5 J A and Hyou survived again.

Hyon was all-in from the big blind with 64 off against Lawrence Bass’ T8 off.  The board came A A 9 4 T and Lawrence took the pot.

Hyon Chun took 4th place and $2,088.

Level 21: Blinds 6k/12k/2k ante

After Lawrence Bass raised, Hyon Chun shoved and got the call.  Lawrence’s pocket Kings were way ahead of Hyou’s AK.  The board was an innocent T 9 3 Q 4 and Lawrence doubled up to about 280k.  Hyon was left with only ~20k.

Hyon was then all-in for 18k with two callers, who checked down the board of J 8 7 J 9.  Hyon was the only one who could produce a pair with his Q9, so he tripled up.

Then Hyon was all-in pre-flop holding KJ suited and was dominated by Paul Balzano’s AK offsuit.  The board of J 9 6 6 6 gave Hyon another double-up and he’s back over 100k.

Level 20: Blinds 5k/10k/1k ante

George Miro started the day as the chip leader, but nothing seemed to go his way today.

On his final hand, Paul Balzano was in the small blind and shoved with pocket 5s, having George well covered.  George tossed in his last ~50k holding .

The board fell and despite picking up a flush draw on the turn, the river was no help to George.  He exited the tournament in 5th place, earning $1,542.

Paul Balzano chipped up to over 300k.

Level 19: Blinds 4k/8k/1k ante

George Miro opened for 16k from the cutoff and then Bruce MacGregor made it 30k from the button.  After some thought, George called.

The flop came and George checked.  Bruce announced “all-in” and tossed in his last 83k.  George called, showing for two pair.  Bruce’s was out-flopped and it looked like he was headed for the door.

Then the dealer peeled off the , giving Bruce Aces-up.  Once the landed on the river, Bruce doubled up to about 230k.  George’s stack dropped to ~150k.

Level 19: Blinds 4k/8k/1k ante

There were five players still hanging on when time ran out on Day 1.  They’re back now to continue the battle for the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ’N’ Roll” Poker Open trophy — except for Hyon Chun, who appears to be running late.

Average stack is 168k (21 big blinds).

The last elimination flipped the leaderboard but not enough to get everyone to keep playing so we’re back tomorrow at 1 PM ET for the conclusion of the Seniors event. George Miro’s stranglehold on the table was broken but he will still come back out in front. Play resumes with 14:41 left in Level 19 with blinds at 4,000/8,000/1000 ante. Gary Chapin nearly got away with it.  Almost immediately after the break, Chapin went all-in after a pre-flop raise from Hyou Chun which put Chun in the tank.  After checking out the payout board, he decided to take the chance after evaluating the pay jump.  It turned out to be the right call.

Chapin did have out to catch up after a board gave him the remaining hearts in the deck along with the jacks but a finished the hand and Chapin’s day in 6th place. Chapin wins $1,178 for a great run through the Seniors event.

Player are on break with six players still remaining.   George Miro is still the chip leader but Bruce MacGregor after catching a straight against Miro late in Level 18 has closed the gap.

The action keeps flying with George Miro front and center.  The chip leader called an 84k all-in from Bruce MacGregor and the race was on.

MacGregor hit an ace right off the flop and it held up giving him a big double-up through the chip leader. Six players still remain as we close in on Level 18.
