As of the dinner break, Daniel Navarrete is the chip leader with 1.14 million.  It’s a very close race, however, as there are four other players over the million-chip-mark.

“I donated twice,” said Brian, “then got some back.  Daniel is up to 1.05 million.

During the previous level:

Vladimer Tsitlidze, who started the day as the chip leader, has been eliminated in 51st place.  He’ll collect $645 for his efforts.

Kenneth Norman and Ginny Smythe got to the river with a board of AhTd6s9dJc.  Ginny checked and Kenneth bet 90k.  After some thought, Ginny released her hand.

“Did you have an Ace?” she asked.  “I had top two, ” he replied, “no one likes to fold to me”.

With that pot, Kenneth, who started the day second in chips, chipped up to over 1 million and is the clear chip leader.

Event 7: Brian Wins Big Before Break

Before the break, Brian Gelrod pulled a big pot when he got stubborn about defending his big blind.

After a player in late position raised to 35k, Brian shoved for ~211k holding Q7 offsuit.  His opponent was way ahead with pocket Jacks, but a Queen in the window sent the pot to Brian.  He’s now up to ~475k.

Michael Larkin (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) was all-in pre-flop for his last 136k.  When his opponent in seat 1 called with AK, it looked like Michael would be headed out.

Then the board ran out A T 8 9 Q giving Michael a straight and the double-up to survive.

On the same table, Joe Calabia (Stuart, FL) got all-in holding pocket Aces against the pocket 8s of Nelli Shteyn.  The board was all Joe: A 9 5 9 Q.   He doubled up to ~340k with Aces-full.  Nelli dropped to ~60k.

Event 7: Klur Katches Lucky

Before the break, Larry Klur (Pembroke Pines, FL) got to the river with the board showing Kd9c5dJc6c and his opponent in early position fired 30k.

Larry only gave it a few seconds thought before calling.  His opponent rolled over pocket Tens, but was beat by Larry’s Jd8d for a pair of Jacks.  With that pot, Larry chipped up to ~525k.

Larry made the televised final table of the WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic back in 2006, finishing 4th for $292,264.
