$365 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 22: 10,000/20,000 | Payouts

David Prociak

David Prociak began the heads up battle with a huge chip deficit but quickly erased it in two big hands.

The match evened out after his chips went in after a AdTc3s flop with Borenstein’s AcKc7c6h ahead of Ah5s4c4h. Prociak made two pair on the river to double up and get back in the game.

Three hands later, there were three pot-sized bets in the middle before the flop. Borenstein opened to 60,000 from the button, Prociak raised to 180,000 and Borenstein put in another big bet to 540,000.

Prociak called to see the Jc9d5h flop and all the chips went in the middle.

Prociak: 9c6d5d2c
Borenstein: KsKcJd4d

“You have two pair?” a very surprised Borenstein asked.

Prociak was ahead with bottom two against Borenstein’s kings. Borenstein picked a flush draw on the 8d turn but the Qc was a blank.

They counted down both stacks and Prociak’s 374,000 barely had Borenstein and the tournament was complete.

Full recap to come.

1st: David Prociak – $14,118 + WSOPC Gold ring
2nd: Jon Borenstein – $8,721

Jon Borenstein

Event 6: John Holley – 3rd Place ($6,297)

$365 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 22: 10,000/20,000 | Payouts
Players Remaining: 2 of 181

John Holley

Jon Borenstein opened to 50,000 from the button and John Holley moved all in from the small blind for 88,000. David Prociak called along with Borenstein.

The two live players checked down the board until it read KhJh5s4sJs and Borenstein bet 75,000 on the river.

“I’m dead,” said Holley.

Prociak mucked and Borenstein said “boat” before tabling Jc8h7d4d for jacks over fours. Holley showed AhTd8d4c and hit the payout desk.

Jon Borenstein – 1,430,000 (72 bb)
John Holley – Eliminated in 3rd place ($6,297)

Event 8: Tough Table Draws Early

$100,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool | Structure
Level 3: 75/150
Entries: 94

Phil Hui (left) and Kurt Jewell (right)

The $1,125 pricepoint attracts pros from Florida and beyond. With that, comes a tough field that will really make the eventual champion have to work for it. A quick walk through the tournament floor finds Table 62 occupied by two of the Circuit’s most decorated players side-by-side — Phil Hui and Kurt Jewell.

Hui is a four-time ring winner and bracelet holder with nearly $940,000 in WSOP-related earnings. Jewell, meanwhile, edges out Hui in rings, owning five. Though he doesn’t claim the bracelet Hui does, Jewell’s WSOP resume is quite stout as well with $688,000 in reported earnings.

Event 6: John Holley Doubles through David Prociak

$365 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 21: 8,000/16,000 | Payouts
Players Remaining: 3 of 181

John Holley limped the small blind and David Prociak got 48,000 in from the big. Holley called and the pair saw a flop.

Flop: 9d7d3c

Holly said pot and Prociak re-potted it. Holley got his last 128,000 in the middle.

Holley: Qd8h7c6c
Prociak: Ad8s5d4d

Turn and River: JsTh

Prociak missed everything while Holley improved to a queen-high straight. Holley doubled.

John Holley – 340,000
David Prociak – 780,000

Event 5: Jeffrey Higgins Scores $12,877 in WSOP Circuit Freeze-Out

2017 Seminole Hard Rock WSOP Circuit
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Hollywood, Florida
Event 5
$365 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Entries: 159
Prize Pool: $47,700
September 26-27, 2017

(Hollywood, Fla.) — The World Series of Poker Circuit continued Wednesday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with the final day of play in Event 5, a $365 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Freeze-Out. The 159-entry field returned just five players and it was Jeffrey Higgins of Northborough, Mass. that left victorious. For his efforts, Higgins was sent back northeast with $12,877 along with his first-ever WSOP Circuit gold ring.

“This means more to me than it should,” an emotional Higgins said following the win.

Currently splitting his time between multiple businesses, Higgins, 37, quit his first job in in 2006 and played online. In the years that followed, he picked up traditional work. Today, his children and businesses keep him busy and poker has become a hobby he only gets to indulge in sporadically.

The $365 buy-in freeze-out — Event 5 on the WSOP Circuit schedule — saw a prize pool $47,700 that paid the top 18 finishers. Mark Fink (10th), Phil Hui (14th) and Daniel Pearlman (17th) were among those who bowed out in the money but shy of the final table.

The opening day of action moved fast. After an 11am kickoff, the 10-handed final table was reached shortly after 10pm. Fink’s bustout sent pay to the nine-handed finale and Circuit standout Bob Chow was first to go from there. Eric Piderit’s sixth-place elimination was the last of the night as Level 21 expired and play concluded.

When action resumed the following day, Higgins owned the chip lead over Florida pro Sean Shah, Austin Reilly, Stephen Bierman and Steven Disney. Disney, who returned with just five big blinds, went in fifth followed by Shah in fourth and Bierman in third. The heads-up battle between Higgins and Reilly lasted about an hour. They began neck-and-neck in the counts, but Higgins hit a timely flop when he scored bottom two pair against Reilly’s top pair, top kicker. The duo got it all-in and Reilly was left shortstacked while Higgins sprinted to the finish line a short while later. Reilly earned $7,959 for the runner-up finish.

Prior to Wednesday, Higgins’ tournament resume boasted only modest success. His victory in the $365 freeze-out is his first major win and moves him into a tie for second on the Seminole Hard Rock WSOP Circuit Casino Championship leaderboard.

Matt Kaplan

Matt Kaplan had the shortest stack of the four remaining players and put his last 115,000 in the middle after two bets between himself and Jon Borenstein.

Borenstein: QdJd9d9c
Kaplan: AsKd4s2c

Borenstein was ahead and improved on the Qh6h5d flop.

“You have a gutshot,” Borentstein said.
