We mentioned earlier that all 70 tables were in play this afternoon and that includes the 16 we have in the Meeting Room across the hall from the Grand Ballroom.

Some notables on that side include Brian Altman, Matt Bretzfield, Richard Whitebrook, Fred Dabus, Wagner Wysotchanski, Michael Tait, and David Levi.

Altman is a three-time WPT champ and made history as the first player to win the same WPT event twice; our 2015 LHPO Champions and against in 2020. His third came at our sister property in Tampa in June.

Bretzfield is coming off a winning performance in the $600 Mixed PLO tournament, winning Event 21 outright for $11,475.

Players keep showing up and we keep finding seats for them. The 1,430 combined entries already pushed the prize pool over $4.5 million with another round number in the near future.

A few more familiar faces include Nicole Diaz, Adam Zeltser, Duff Charette, Ralph Massey, Jeff Morzella, Rodney Turvin, and Chance Kornuth.

Diaz hadn’t planned on making the trip from Orlando for the Champioship. She was part of the huge $1,000,000 guarantee Event 15 field and that was it for her.

Then Nadya Magnus ran a poker-related brain teaser on Twitter with the prize being a Championship set. Magnus, the reigning GPI Female Player of the Year, has generously done this in the past and this time around it was Diaz on the receiving end of the good fortune.

Magnus herself is already set for Day 2 after bagging 197,500 in Flight A.

The entry count quickly jumped over 400 after the start of play with many many more expected before we close registration this evening.

A few familiar faces were here at the start including Matt and Brittney Stout, the husband/wife duo from Las Vegas trying to make a double run at the title.

Matt has some nice results in this tournament with two final tables, 2014 and 2018, for half a million combined.

The 2022 WPT Poker Showdown Championship had a great opening day with 970 entries surpassing the $3,000,000 guarantee and today we will add to the prize pool with the last flight starting at 11 am. The $3,500 buy-in tournament will draw a huge crowd on a Saturday and we’re excited to see what milestone they reach.

Championship players start with 50,000 deep stacks and all levels last 60 minutes on Days 1 and 2 going up to 90 when 40 players remain. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 9:15 pm.

The flight will come to an end after Level 10 and survivors will return tomorrow at noon for Day 2.

Day 1A of the WPT Poker Showdown Championship drew 970 entries, surpassing the $3 million guarantee with an entire second starting flight to go. There were 300 players who survived, securing seats for Day 2 on Sunday at Noon.

Christian Harder leads the way after Day 1A, bagging an impressive stack of 605,500. A double elimination in the last half hour of the night propelled him to the top.

Full chip counts from Day 1A will be posted later tonight.

With the board showing on the river and about 135K already in the pot, Jason Weaver checked from the big blind, and Shannon Shorr bet 105,000 from UTG+1.

Weaver tanked for a while before he called, and Shorr showed for a pair of kings. But Weaver turned over to win the pot with two pair, eights and fives.
